against my better judgement I'm on here

A first year above 2C in the mid-2030s now looks plausible. 0.5C was first passed in 1980, 1.0C in 2010 and 1.5C in 2024. The 15-year trend runs at 0.42C per decade. The 2026 and 2027 points for the current El Nino are estimates. We're not remotely ready!

Line chart titled "A first year above 2 C in the mid-2030s looks increasingly plausible". It shows global mean surface temperature from 1940 to 2050 as the annual anomaly against the 1850 to 1900 baseline, in degrees C. Data is ERA5 from Copernicus, running to 31 July 2026.

A thin gold line shows individual years, wobbling around a thick dark blue smoothed trend. Both sit near 0.2 C through the 1940s to the early 1970s, then climb steadily from the mid-1970s onward.

Three red dots mark the first year each threshold was passed. 0.5 C in 1980, 1.0 C in 2010 and 1.5 C in 2024. Labels beneath note the gap of 30 years between the first two and 14 years between the second and third. Everything above 1.5 C is shaded pink.

Two dashed lines run forward from 2025. A blue line follows the 15-year trend of 0.42 C per decade and reaches 2 C in 2037. A fainter grey line follows the 30-year trend of 0.27 C per decade and reaches 2 C in 2044.

Two orange circles mark estimates for the developing El Niño, at about 1.5 C for 2026 and about 1.7 C for 2027.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

I saw this story for the first time on @allinwithchris.bsky.social last night and for the life of me I don’t know why this hasn’t been leading the news for weeks. Also, fwiw, the way this person would have been cast as every elected Democrat in office were he a Dem, just messaging malpractice.

Gosh, the news out of Indiana is horrible. ICYMI, the Indiana Historical Society fired its entire Education and Engagement Team and its Exhibits staff. Apparently, the emergency all-hands meeting lasted 3 minutes & then they were all escorted from the building, having to return later for their stuff

Open source tools can help track every stage of a wildfire, from the first reports through to assessing the damage once the flames are out. Throughout July, the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service helped researchers monitor how wildfire smoke spread across Canada and the US.

This is completely untrue! A concurrent resolution has never been tested in court. The idea that the president has to sign Congress' resolution taking away his war powers was always ridiculous, and Democrats or an intervenor can and should make that case.

This story is WILD. Juan Orlando Hernandez, the Honduran ex-president pardoned by Trump for narcotrafficking, seemingly caught on tape in dozens of conversations (if true), discussing plans with GOP and other figures to attack left-wing governments, and saying Israel paid for his pardon from Trump.

You can order pills from overseas clinics and mutual aid groups. *Possessing* mifepristone is not a crime (except in Louisiana). I'm not saying I have some but I am saying if you are someone who can get pregnant or knows people who can, order some now. www.plancpills.org

Abortion pill manufacturers have asked the Supreme Court to reinstate an FDA rule allowing mifepristone to be prescribed by telemedicine and sent through the mail. The case could drastically disrupt access to abortion pills across the US.

NEWS --> Dem can redraw anywhere from 10 to 22 additional House seats for the party in time for the 2028 elections if they aggressively redistrict in 7 key states, a new Fair Fight Action analysis finds. This would neutralize GOP's post-SCOTUS advantage. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/2098...
