Politics, politics, politics

It’s a direct attack on rule of law from the highest levels, aimed at permanently ending US Constitutional democracy and imposing a dictatorship. Always has been. Anyone who tries treating it as something else—as if they’re dealing with mistaken impressions rather than lies—gets egg on their face.

It's funny that Jeanine Pirro brought a box of evidence to WH to persuade Trump. He wants her to consciously *throw out* exculpatory facts and *knowingly* prosecute innocent people. So facts can't persuade him by definition. Me and @barbmcquade.bsky.social on this: newrepublic.com/article/2139...

RE: the last screenshot, on Doug Burgum: It's worth noting that Burgum ended up being the point man in Trump's war against wind power, and so had to get comfortable blatantly and publicly lying to do that. Once you start getting comfortable with it, future instances become easy.

"I don't get it guys, the man who we've catered to in every conceivable way doesn't get that /this/ time we cant do it. How did we get to this point and why is everyone in this meeting wearing a hot dog costume?"

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social · 4h ago

Let's not lose sight of how abnormal this is. Trump is demanding prosecutions over Reflecting Pool fiasco even though his own DOJ has shown conclusively it isn't supported by facts or law. On the pod, @barbmcquade.bsky.social is brilliant on the bigger stakes here: newrepublic.com/article/2139...

Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe

Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion

Harrowing stuff here: "'What time is it busiest in the FSU student union,' he asked next." "ChatGPT described specific activities and locations and said the busiest periods included 'weekday lunchtimes, typically between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.'"

maga will accept as leaders rapists, pedophiles, white supremasicsts, wife beaters, con artists, conspiracy theorists, absolute morons, paid foreign agents, & people who are *all* of those things but you can't be even slightly pro-immigration, that's the line newrepublic.com/article/2138...

MAGA Erupts at Trump DHS Chief—and Accidentally Exposes Big MAGA Scam

Markwayne Mullin just said the unsayable: that immigration can sometimes help the economy and the country. Now MAGA wants his head.

"We have to say to folks, 'Here's where your money's being stolen, here's who's doing it, here's who's suffering from violations of the rule of law.' Show real people who are being harmed. Things that make Americans mad." Yes. Elevate the victims. #ElevateTheVictims

New Fox poll finds Trump 9 points underwater *in Texas.* Half of Texas independents have a *strongly* unfavorable view of Trump. Talarico +3. Those are crazy numbers for Texas. On the pod, @sawyerhackett.bsky.social is good on the possibilities this opens for Dems: newrepublic.com/article/2139...

Trump Hit by Fox Poll Shocker That Undercuts His Latest Midterm Tirade

As Fox News polling shows serious slippage for Trump in unexpected places, a Democratic strategist ponders whether his party can pull off miracles in Texas and other red states.

Some very interesting work here. I really like the optimistic tone about the possibilities of campaigning on renewable energy. It's so much more interesting than the studied pessimissim of the "climate hushers."

NEW @rooseveltinstitute.org: as wildfires & heatwaves rage, we are not powerless. As 19 authors argue in our 157-page "Building Up in 2029" report, we can adapt & expand Biden & Trump experiments to create lasting state capacity to tackle climate change. 🧵🧵 rooseveltinstitute.org/publications...

“Mullin let slip a very dirty secret indeed: By reforming governing processes, we can broaden legal pathways for immigrants to work in the US in ways that would benefit our economy and our country.” MAGA was furious. Yet more evidence that the purpose of “mass deportations” is ethnic cleansing.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social · yesterday

Don't miss this vile story: MAGA is raging at DHS chief Markwayne Mullin for admitting migrant farmworkers can beneft our economy. This means his devotion to ethnic cleansing is in doubt. He must be excommunicated! I wrote about the collapse of MAGA mythology here: newrepublic.com/article/2138...
