Elisabetta Sirani, Timoclea throws the Captain of Alexander the Great down a well, 1659 (Naples, Museo di Capodimonte). Sirani died on this day in 1665 at just 27 years old, already successfully running a workshop and school in Bologna.

excited to share I’ve moved to Providence, Rhode Island, to start a PhD in History of Art & Architecture at @brown.edu this autumn 🤎 feeling very lucky to spend the next few years reading, thinking, and writing about the art I love (plus finally experiencing a proper New England fall) 🥹📚☕️🍁

so grateful for the chance to spend time with a newly accessible work by my favourite obscure artist as I prepare to start the PhD this autumn, and very much looking forward to reading the brilliant projects of my fellow awardees 🕵️‍♀️🎨

I have a strict ‘submit and forget’ policy, but today I couldn’t help but look at my mark. Never expected to go on a pilgrimage to a remote corner of Northern Italy but anything in the service of research!

Hey! I’m Elena - I’m an Art History student at Cambridge and these are some of the research projects I’ve been working on recently. My focus is on the intersection of literature and the visual arts!
