I consider myself an interdisciplinary scientist. A post on LinkedIn challenged the idea that we should mentor our students to be more interdisciplinary. Here are my thoughts on what that means in my new APS Presidential column. www.psychologicalscience.org/publications...

Is Interdisciplinary Science Worth It?

"You don't want scholars answering to two or more disciplines. You want them to enrich and integrate their own discipline with ideas drawn from others."

As of today, I'm officially an Assistant Professor at the University of California Davis! I'm so excited to be joining the Department of Psychology and the Center for Mind and Brain, and I'm looking forward to getting settled into the new lab and embarking on a lot of fun new research this year

A short blonde woman stands next to a concrete sign that says UC Davis. The background of the photos shows a view of a lawn, tree, and building on the UC Davis campus.

PSA for trainees cold emailing with interest in joining a lab: Be careful about your use of LLMs in writing these emails!! It is now *extremely* common to get emails with a bizarrely-detailed, clearly-LLM take on a paper finding or with specific phrases pulled from the lab website. Don’t do this!

Excited to be editing a Developmental Science special issue on Culture, Context, and Brain Development with Heather Bortfeld, Laura Katus, and Bruce Rawlings. Seeking papers from diverse contexts using novel approaches! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/page/journal... Please share!

Getting the word out on NIH scoping changes announced yesterday at ASHEcon. As noted on June 8th by the NIH Director, Jay Bhattacharya, grants should not be geared toward policymakers but toward stakeholders who directly benefit from NIH researchers:

Scientific literature depends on the integrity of its references. In a new research letter, authors present the findings of a reference-integrity audit of 2.5 million biomedical papers. Read this & more in our latest issue: spkl.io/63325A7eXP

Cover of The Lancet's May 9, 2026 issue. Quote on cover reads: "[An]...audit of 2.5 million biomedical papers spanning 3 years, show[ed] that fabricated references are embedded in the peer-reviewed literature at scale, and that the rate of fabrication is accelerating."

My employer, Univ. Colorado will pay OpenAI $2M/year under the banner of “equity”. That’s 54 full scholarships / year. Plus, our IT will be able to read our chatGPT logs, and our chats can be requested under public records law. No thanks. Surveillance is not equity www.axios.com/local/boulde...
