i made my first ever youtube comment after discovering music i am not cool enough to love, and am dying at the discovery that at some point in my life i set my username to "tchebychevinequality". because of course i did
Having calmed down a little I will say this. One of the most utterly depressing things about being trans in Australia in 2026 is that most backward steps lately haven't come from conservatives. The worst changes in the last few years have come from progressives and LGBTIQ orgs pushing terrible ideas
I have decided to lie on the next Australian census. The "sex recorded at birth" question doesn't allow you not to answer, and as I am not a fan of forcibly outing stealth trans people, I am not playing. Fuck you to everyone who thought this was a good idea www.starobserver.com.au/news/census-...
And so after a very brief hiatus, version 0.7.0 of "learning statistics with R" exists. Full rebuild in quarto, stylistic fixes, "epilogues from 2026" to comment on how the world changed since original publication, and as an added bonus, no longer misgenders the author learningstatisticswithr.com

watching claude struggle to edit a word document is validating every nasty thought i have ever had about word documents. unlike the poor human editor the agent can actually see the OOXML. and even with that extra knowledge it still fucks up the document every time it acts. word sucks
one day i hope to remember what self-confidence feels like. siiiiiiiiiiigh
this system doesn't throw up minimalist pieces very often, but when it does... some of them really are lovely
i made it unreliable again. feeling much better
it's wild how quickly i lose interest with systems when they "just work" and require no further action from me as the artist. yay, after days of tinkering with the code i can now generate an arbitrary number of these things with only the seed as input, and it works every time. i am immediately bored
Not to be a huge bitch but in my experience people who are able to go fully "fuck gender expectations" have a lifestyle where their support system shields them from having to interface with things like "having a job" or "being taken seriously in any situation"
"You can identify however you want!!!" is a nice thought until you have to participate in society in any meaningful way

Today is the anniversary of the Box-Cox power transform. #OTD 1964 George Box & David R Cox read their paper “An Analysis of Transformations” at the RSS meeting. It describes methods for reducing nonnormality of errors in a linear model. The paper began with their names then found the topic. 1/3
the 85th output of the 17th iteration of the 4th attempt at designing a system around an idea i nicked off another generative artist, and at last i don't hate it
the world is depressing beyond my ability to describe. so, yeah, making art to distract myself from the horrors
one of my favourite experiences in writing art code is when the code base is just complex enough that you can almost predict what it will produce, but not quite, leading to pieces that aren't exactly what you were expecting #rstats

More precisely, some thoughts on an R package I might send to CRAN, and I’d appreciate comments and criticism

i really wish i were better at keeping my thoughts to myself. sigh :(
New blog post is up. Ever had to manage a bunch of R-based ETL pipelines and wanted a better way to maintain them? I wrote about how {S7} classes and generics can turn a pile of scripts into a more extensible, composable system. #rstats joekirincic.com/posts/this-r-script-could-ve-been-an-s7-class/

Decided that the time has come to wrap up the series of #rstats art pieces I've been posting recently. As usual, the pieces themselves are released under CC-BY licence, and the source code is linked to from the gallery page
