Worked on this wildfire investigation for the last number of months with colleagues across the EU. To publish today is, sadly, very timely. While Ireland doesn’t experience the ‘mega fires’ we see in Spain etc, the damage caused to protected sites here is actually far greater than most of Europe.

NEW INVESTIGATION: Despite escaping the 'mega fires' seen in countries such as Spain and Greece, Ireland actually has one of Europe’s highest rates of wildfire overlap with protected nature sites, we can reveal

Today marks the start of my last month as a postdoc in Finland. As much as I would like to say I managed to secure myself another position, the (academic) job market is rough right now. I’m officially #OpenTowork. It’s not all bleak as I'm moving back to NL - and my partner and our cats (1/5)

Rather grey and dramatic view of the Golf of Bothnia from Nallikari beach in Oulu. You can see a lighthouse, grey skies, and the slow beginnings of a midnight sunset.

A whine I need to get out before it chokes me: I'm on the job market (aren't we all) in NL where academia is falling apart (isn't it everywhere). Since defending TT positions have disappeared. At first there were a few teaching only jobs, but those are now mostly "junior" lectureships for grads

The pots I made during my art-research residency at De Proef have all been fired and will be part of an exhibition at Frederiksoord this month 🍐 Unfortunately I'll miss it, but if anybody happens to be around do have a look! Ga eem kiekn

A collage of photos showing 1) three small jugs made with brown clay and decorated with white slip. The jugs have ivy leaves, dandelion leaves, and espaliers, 2) a bigger round vase with dandelion leaves and a bumblebee 3) an unfired upside down bowl in progress with espaliers carved 4) the inside of the bowl decorated with pears and 5) an old espalier treePoster with info on an exhibition. The Dutch text reads "Tuin als spiegel, kunst in dialoog met de tuin. Expo 05/06-31/06. Feestelijke opening: vrijdag 5 juni, 15:00, De Proef Frederiksoord. 11 Kunstenaars, 11 residenties." Very pleased to have my first academic publication (in English) archived on the RCC Springs website 🦋 this time with a little foreword that I hope shows my growth as a scholar but also that it's still really about the same two things for me: storytelling and the environment

Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was killed today in a targeted Israeli strike. The IDF fired live rounds and stun grenades at the Red Cross ambulances trying to reach her. She is the 4th journalist killed by Israel while in the field since 2 March. Photo via X @HindRFoundation.
