Professional enthusiast. Opinions very much my own. Oops, mostly hockey. 💙💜💖 She/her. 🕊️🇵🇸

I love hockey and I’m coming around on some of the fighting (SOME), but it’s pretty refreshing watching a sport where the athletes aren’t always stopping the play to punch each other.

I am such a sucker for the combo of feminist history and emotionally manipulative music, so the start of this inaugural WPBL championship series has me a total mess right now! I can’t watch this whole game, but I’m so damn pumped for our Bay Area team of absolute rockstars! GO SF FIREBELLS!!! 🔥🔔💜🧡

Hot damn, Sharks rookies up 7-1 with two Stenberg goals in two minutes. No wonder the Kings rookies keep instigating fights, cause that's honestly embarrassing. Love (preseason) hockey being back!

I know we're all aware that hockey commentary often sounds delightfully gay, but like... "Spending time with a man draped all over him, but he couldn't get any good wood on it." What are we doing here, guys?

Before 2001 my mom loved listing the many people she knew who shared her birthday. Not so much since then. We still try to give her a nice day each year, despite what the entire rest of the country is understandably focused on.

There are already articles circulating trying to rewrite history and say America was great after 9/11 and united and thoughtful and just a reminder that that period was marked by intense and insanely racist hatred, paranoia, and a frothing desire for unhinged violence and oppression.

Recently I was telling a guy that the NHL is the only men’s pro sport I follow because hockey is amazing, but that it’s hard because I hate the way sexual assault gets covered up and ignored. He was dismissive, saying “Sure, but that’s all (men’s) leagues.” Yeah, dude. That’s the fucking problem!

I… can’t tell if I love or hate the weird cover of “Losing My Mind” from Follies in the VisionQuest trailer. It’s verrrry hard for me to resist pop culture Sondheim nods.

I hope the Canes keep their witch into this next season. Can someone convince them she’s the reason they won the cup? Hockey players are superstitious enough for that, right?

I keep thinking I should talk about the success of Cape & Cowl Con yesterday, but I’m too tired to process all the awesome, fun, and somewhat emotionally overwhelming positive experiences I had all day. All the guests and vendors and attendees and volunteers made the work we put in so worth it!

I've been listening to podcasts with Laila Edwards and Kelsie Whitmore today and they're such cool, funny women, but I've also been crying my damn eyes out. The trajectory of the PWHL and WPBL, with these players on the Bay's teams... it's a lot!

Left the house to a chilly, overcast morning with dried leaves swirling around the crows, and tonight I’m watching hockey. Finally getting out of summer and into the best season!

(On a deeply selfish level, the crying has also been weirdly physically helpful today. I’m not sure what the science behind it is, but tears really help relieve migraine pressure!)

It feels important that we’re able to collectively mourn and celebrate Dolly. Seeing stories about her impact on so many strangers has brought me to tears over and over today, for which I’m extremely grateful. Reminders of the best of our shared humanity don’t always feel accessible these days.

Oh, Dolly. Thank you for all the lives you helped save, all the emotions you helped us express, and all the joy you gave us. What a privilege to share the same world you were a part of.

Least favorite things about the Nashville Predators: 1. Their name, WTF! 2. Beating the Sharks so often. 3. The fact that Luke Evangelista is related to actual Linda Evangelista, not a member of the fictional ballroom House of Evangelista. Hockey voguing would just be so entertaining!

Sometimes the algorithm shows me cute little videos of donkeys braying and my brain immediately and somewhat embarrassingly supplies “Will Smith Donkey.” This is about hockey, unfortunately.

Mostly I think it’s hilarious that all the PWHL folks think the San Jose players are signing up for beach life when they come here in November, but I do worry about the team being named the San Jose Fun In The Sun Palm Tree Surfers or something because the league doesn’t know the culture of the Bay.

I’m looking forward to when I’ve learned and relearned enough baseball nuances that I can yell at the screen like my WPBL team’s coaching staff can hear me. For now it’s just GO FIREBELLS! 💜🧡
