Josh Grisetti. Sam Neill. FUCK. What an awful start to the week.
Wow I remember seeing The Ring and Big Love and even Donnie Darko and thinking Daveigh Chase was something special. 35 years old is way too young.
Daveigh Chase has passed away at 35. The actress was known for her performance in ‘The Ring,’ as well as voicing Lilo in ‘Lilo & Stitch’ and Chihiro in the English dub of ‘Spirited Away.’
One of my Hollywood Fringe shows is a Larchmont Buzz Pick of the Week! That’s kinda cool!! 😍 Read it here: larchmontbuzz.com/theater/a-pe...
I’m playing two very different gals at the Hollywood Fringe! Amy is an insomniac in a mental hospital emoting via 90s songs, while Hannah is living through a psychological thriller in the 80s. Both tackle feminism in overt & subtle ways, though, so they feel like 2 sides of the same coin for me.
It’s so funny when my theatre friends congratulate me on my masters but they call it an MFA. 😜 Like no honey, it’s full academia MA on an artsy subject. That’s why it took so ding dang diddly loooooong.
The NYC theatre scene has one of their biggest community award shows tonight! So I felt like posting the awesome slogan to this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival.
Today is the last day of school. Jeff & I got our “your life burned down” settlement this week. It’s “winning the lottery” money… we just had to lose everything to get it. 🤣 And I just got some extremely exciting news (re: my secret garden history). This is a DAMN good week.
My husband has never seen Dick Tracy. I KNOW. And while I fully know it’s not good, I can’t let my Noir/Sondheim-loving husband live another day without seeing Mandy Patinkin and Madonna sing What Can You Lose.
I just found out that my most dramatic/traumatic college boyfriend is RUNNING FOR MAYOR OF LONG BEACH.
All kids' shows of the 25/26 school year are DUNZO! There's only 9 days of school left so that means the kids get to watch all kinds of movie musicals and pro-shots (the glorified babysitting endgame phase of the year).
I just want to play Mother from Ragtime. Before I’m too old. I think I could do it.
I am officially a historian. A MASTER of Musical Theatre History. Next stop PhD… 😉
I just remembered that tomorrow I'm wearing a flipping cap and gown for the first time since my high school graduation (I didn't do it for undergrad cuz I didn't care, I just did the UCSC theatre grad IYKYK). Lord. I'm a 100 years old why am I doing this? 😂
I’m so grateful to my friends who became mothers and felt comfortable enough to tell me EXACTLY what motherhood entails. I’m also grateful for a lifetime of working in childcare/education. I’m child free by choice, but also I love kids and I’m happy to be the kooky aunt. Love you, moms. 💐
I feel like LA theatre is having the biggest clowning Renaissance since commedia dell’arte.
A dud Tony award season is nothing new. Remember when Contact won best musical? You know the show with NO LIVE SINGING? Or the 1985 season with Big River where every other title is completely lost to time? It’s the ebbs and flows of Broadway theatre.
Watching that Next to Normal proshot with the Brits and remembering that my best roles are ahead of me.
I don’t think anyone cares on bluesky but I’m in TWO shows at the Hollywood Fringe Festival this summer. One is an 80s psychological thriller, the other is a 90s jukebox cabaret. You’ll love ‘em! Tix go on sale today, use code “earlybird” for a discount! You can find us at hollywoodfringe.org ❤️
This show meant so much to teenage me. I wish I could tell her I married a Roger.
Not to make anyone feel ancient, but Rent opened on Broadway *30* years ago tonight.
Damn I've had multiple parents message me this school year asking why their student's grade went down in the easy performing arts class. And l'm like... you know all those parameters on the syllabus and assignments on canvas and hard copy flyers I've sent home? They answer these questions.
Tonight is first night this entire month I have NOTHING to do. No rehearsals, shows, parties, events, meetings, or interviews. All I need to do is ROT on the couch. 😌
The Secret Garden opened on Broadway 35 years ago tonight.
35 years ago today The Secret Garden opened on Broadway! I have about 140 pages written on the subject and so many folders of research, oral histories, and articles. Truly I could go on and on about this show and the ladies who created musicals in the first 90 years of the medium’s existence.
My husband works at Descanso Gardens and one of his regulars also knows @jenelleriley.bsky.social. So, we saw his show at the Largo tonight, doing some long form hilarious improv with his friends! Maybe this guy’ll make it big someday…
The way my parents used to tease me about my use of “like” is the way I tease my tween students about their use of “wait.” STOP TELLING ME TO WAIT IM ALREADY TALKING TO YOU.
