Oscar Hammerstein had a terrific 1943, with Oklahoma! opening in March and Carmen Jones opening in December. Finding himself the toast of Broadway again after a long string of failures, he took out a self-deprecating ad in the January 5, 1944 issue of Variety listing his flops. An absolute legend.

Patti LuPone had a "major stipulation" for transferring to NY with Les Mis, and that was letting her play a second role (either Eponine or Cosette) From a 1986 Newsday feature, when she was still playing Fantine in London.

Do you think I'd come all this way to England to play a role if it wasn't in my contract to play it on Broadway?" she said with characteristic explosiveness. The small, wiry woman with large glasses, large features, straight hair and no makeup, ranges quickly from bristling and volatile to charming and confiding ("Don't write that; my mother will read it"), feet in lotus position, hands flying. "It's my option whether I play Fantine on Broadway or not," she said. "But it's 14 months away and I don't know what I'll be doing. She would certainly, however, be tempted by an offer to play two of the four featured women in the show. Preferably Fantine and the young girl Epon-ine, who appears pining for an unrequited love several scenes after Fantine dies. But she'd also be intriqued to play both Fantine and her grown-up daughter, Cosette. LuPone said she's mentioned it to the producers, that they know it's a "major stipulation. For his part, Mackintosh responded icily to a question on the subject. *We think it would be very nice if she would play one of the parts," he said. The only other high chest voice is Eponine, and Eponine is 18 years old. Patt isn't 18. [She's 36. | Unless she wants to dig up Victor Hugo to rewrite the plot."

whenever someone tells you that it's simply impossible for police to be charged with misconduct or criminal charges, you can tell they're wrong because some cops do get charged regularly — when they are whistleblowers or reformers prosecutors are actually extremely eager to help drum them out!

Stephen Miller said just the other day that all asylum claims are "fake." A couple deported from the U.S. to Guatemala were gagged, bound, and shot dead. Their 14-month old found crying next to their mother's body. People like Miller don't care though because this is the point: ethnic cleansing.
