Two soccer matches today. In one, I got to see my own kid be a total badass. In the other, Columbus won Hell is Real. Good day all around.

Soccer, hockey, and beer loving midwestern mom, wife, and professor. Everton FC, Columbus Crew, Columbus Blue Jackets. Currently (very slowly) learning to speak Irish.
Healthy meal prepping after a vacation week of consuming mountains of fresh delicious seafood and downing East Coast beers I can’t get here in the Midwest is depressing as hell.
What does it say about how messed up my brain is when the Clerk of Courts complimented how organized my paperwork for my daughters’ passport renewals was and I will be riding that high for at least the next week?
Starting the journey home. I’m a pub in Galway, and CMAT is on the radio. I’m sure that happens daily in Ireland, but not at home!
I’m on Inis Mór in the Aran Islands for an Irish language immersion experience. Feeling very humbled and intimidated, but also motivated to keep trying to learn. Can’t beat the view from my hotel room, though!
I’m in Galway and my hotel room isn’t ready yet, so I’m in a pub watching Everton with a pint. Ireland never lets me down.
I like my sports teams like I like my food: causing me physical pain. I like my sports teams like I like my beers: leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. I like my sports teams like I like… Uh, this is messed up.
I’m just so sad. That’s probably stupid. But it’s true.
CBJ room still closed. Might be Festivus in there.
My now nearly 15 yo announced at 18 months old (seriously), “no Ellie. Eleanor.” So I get it.

This game was so much fun for our third of the week. Let’s keep it going tomorrow while I get to boo Crosby in person for the first time ever.
The Athletic: #CBJ dial up checking, lean on Jet Greaves’ sterling goaltending to snap #Sabrehood 10-game win streak with 5-1 victory “A team like that has a lot of confidence. You just have to meet it head-on, and we did that today.” - #CBJ Zach Werenski www.nytimes.com/athletic/693...
I travel pretty frequently for work and for fun and in my opinion the best big airport in the US is DTW (Detroit) and the best smaller airport is CMH (Columbus). Not just saying that because they’re my “home” airports!
My favorite story of fall semester here at BGSU.
From @theathletic.com: Pudge the Cat, a smoosh-faced exotic shorthair with the scowl of a grumpy coordinator, has become catnip to college football fans. Beyond his cuteness, Pudge also gave support to his owner during a very tough time. nyti.ms/46WVxXt

It's actually totally fine -- and possibly very helpful and healthy -- to go to sleep mad at your romantic partner.
What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders? Many historians are quite bad at remembering historical dates
I’m choosing to believe that the Blackhawks did me that favor last night to make amends for their fan who dumped beer down my back at a game at the United Center when I was in undergrad (yes, many years ago).
Our entire household has gone down with test-confirmed flu in the past 48 hours (yes, we’re all vaccinated, so I know it could be much worse if we weren’t). It sucks.
Hockey!!! So much better of an ending to 2024 than last year. This year, the Jackets win in a shootout. Last year, I was less than 24 hours from an emergency appendectomy.
Do we do cat pics here? If so, this is Nori. She is very sad that I’m not sharing the salmon I’m prepping for dinner.
There are many benefits to living in a college town. A drawback, though, is taking your 14yo to urgent care and having her diagnosed with what the local docs are calling “frat boy flu.” (Not a euphemism for like an STI or a hangover — just a nasty virus that originated on campus).
Good pic, match is breaking my heart, though. Come on, Crew.
Going to use my first post here to celebrate being one final exam (Monday at 8 AM) away from closing out the teaching portion of Fall 2023 (got plenty more admin stuff to keep me busy).
