All the things and tired too. MS lady in STL. Pastor's wife, grad student at SLU in ed policy, writer w/ 4 kids, on SLPS BoE. 💚sociology, public edu, reading, crocheting, sertraline, hymns. Opinions mine.

Just remembered how much I despise Lane Kiffin and hate the Georgia radio team. Lane is the worst though bc I enjoy cheering for LSU (Roy’s school) when they aren’t playing us but I don’t think I’ll be able to this season. Hopefully he’ll follow the pattern and not stay long in BR.

I tuned in since my team is on a bye and it was excellent to nap to (positive) and as someone who grew up with the very best radio team in the country, really enjoying hearing from around the nation and still find ours the best. 10/10 will listen again. It’s perfect for the ol’ ADHD.

(I know that’s actually not a permanent solution and pretending bad things aren’t happening is not a great survival strategy in the long run, but there was nothing I could do about it now.)

Why would we let Anthropic decide this for us? If you ascribe to a moral philosophy or religion that disavows being mean to a toaster, that is fine. It is not however fine for a tech company to make, functionally, a moral law for a talking word toaster that is promised to rule us one day.

I’m not so sure it’s okay to allow people to act out being abusive to even a simulation of a person. And it’s genuinely a beautiful aspect of human nature that we have to put in a bunch of mental effort *not* to form a (para)social bond with something, even if there’s no real subject there

The most common type of false allegation of sexual violence is DARVO complaints made by perpetrators against their very real victims. DARVO stands for Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. It’s a way perpetrators avoid accountability by accusing their victims of wrongdoing.

The general sense from law enforcement is that victims are “asking for it” by expecting systems to take concerns about violence seriously. A kind of, “If you want us to believe you, then we have to believe your abuser who said you were dangerous.”

Was listening to my mostly country playlist—a song came on that I listened to a whole lot when Roy and I were dating (and he suffered through a few times) and before I told the kids “hey, this song was for us!” I had the intrusive thought “this song is 20 years old” and I died from the old instead.

“I see protest as a genuine means of encouraging someone to feel the inconsistencies, the horror, of the lives we are living. Social protest is to say that we do not have to live this way." — Audre Lorde

One must care for small immediate results as well as for great and distant ones—and in my own mind nothing takes greater emphasis than the possibility of being certain that our own character and deeds make a few lives near to us better than they would have been without our presence in the world.
