This is such a lazy piece. It's like "this is a price control, and price controls always fail." First, it's not a price control. It's a government subsidy. Second, price controls don't "always" backfire. They prevent gouging in emergencies and help regulate monopolies.

Courtney Milan@courtneymilan.com · last wk.You may recall the case where Lynne Freeman sued Tracy Wolff for writing a YA set in Alaska where the male lead was hot and broody, just like in Freeman's book. This litigation went on for three years before a judge finally read both books and said there was zero infringement.
It's fascinating to me that this video is composed of things like "the Ring camera will show..." and "would I have...?" and not "I did not."

Occasionally my local delivery post office gets a package for me and then sends it back to Denver just for funsies and then Denver sands it back to them.
If you think about some of the great changes in the expansion of our understanding of humanity in the last centuries, almost all of them are (a) still an ongoing work in progress and (b) took us centuries to even get this far.
If you had engaged with the thread you were responding to, you would have seen that the point that was made was that Alex Pretti was not ineffective because he was armed, which is a completely different thing than the one you are saying no.
George Pearkes@peark.es · 4d agoThat’s fine but if you had engaged with my thread you would have seen I was responding to a claim that not being armed is ineffective. Broad historical perspective to evaluate cuts both ways.
I feel like if you actually tried to engage with my thread, you would know that my claim is that we are incapable of parsing what someone has accomplished without a broad historical lens behind us.

Less than 1 year after Stonewall, on May 8, 1970, James McConnell and Richard Baker got hitched and then, presumably, went home and boinked their brains out.
Okay, but that's because you cannot evaluate the efficacy of activism in the near term, and anyone who insists that you do wants you to fail.
George Pearkes@peark.es · 4d agoI haven’t read the piece so I’m not going to back it or critique it but I will just note Alex Pretti ended up dead and nothing changed near term. Doesn’t change my view of him (he was a hero) but feels relevant as a way to evaluate efficacy.
If you are 38 years old or older, I want you to start working on your foot strength and ankle mobility. Unless I hate you. Then I want you to rest for ten years and then suddenly try to hop off a step one day, cold.
I realize the overlap of parents who use chatgpt for everything and people who see their kids as objects they acquired for the sake of appearances and don't really want to meaninfully engage with is a circle, but this is still so grim. They can't even chat with their kids on the morning school run?

Because I am currently on non-stimulant medication, and it works well enough to get to the functioning todo list stage (most of the time), but I still need that strong system in place or it doesn't really help. Just doing things still looks like magic to me.
Okay, I'm going to answer this question, because it's a big one. Here is how I handled this. 1) I paid money to an online service that will diagnose and prescribe ADHD medications. It does not operate in all states. It's Telehealth.
