Y’all science is so cool. (A) I’m at a quantum workshop in Chattanooga, cool in itself, and the reception is at the aquarium. (B) These two fish are arapaima! They are massive. Gretch (lead of my fish paper) lived on a boat in the Amazon tracking them for nearly a year for her MS thesis.

New applied paper: Adaptive capacities of inland fisheries facing anthropogenic pressures Led by Gretchen Stokes in collaboration with colleagues at the UN and USGS. Big question: what does resilience and vulnerability look like for global inland fisheries? www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Threats include habitat degradation, pollution, climate and weather, invasive species, and fishing.

Adaptive capacity domains are learning, organization, flexibility, agency, and assets.

Update to US health agency external communications being paused: These directives also appear to include grant-funding mechanisms (e.g., NIH study sections and councils) as well.

Great news: Clemson IE is hosting an NSF REU site this coming summer. The theme is H-CORE: Human-Centered Operations Research and Engineering. If you know an undergrad who may like research related to humans, systems, and analytics, this could be a great program for them. #orms #ml #mathsky

thank you, Sophie, this helped me a lot; over the years, I tried to distiguish between something like motivation -> applicability -> is it implemented -> they make money from it, as different degrees of how close theoretical considerations are to practice :)

Context behind this one: Gretchen (fish scientist!) is one of my best friends, and one night she mentioned doing AHP to rank threats for this paper. I offered to help, and here we are 🐟 It's really cool to me how concepts of resilience and mitigation show up across disciplines.

I had a great day visiting NC A&T’s ISE Department. It was fun to talk about our research on global pharma supply chains with grad students and faculty, an REU program Clemson is hosting (more info to come!) with undergrads, and how to get involved in research with the IISE chapter. #orms
