A silver lining is that it is through this phenomenon that I helped my state DOT acquire its first skatepark. 🦺🛹🤘
There is a worldwide network of unauthorized skateparks built underneath highway overpasses because these urban spaces are so polluted and unpleasant that city governments tolerate unpermitted construction that displaces drug dealers and other criminal behavior.
What city or community have exceptionally well thought out design standards for traffic calming measures that should be copied elsewhere?

It went well. We ended up with 30 kids (50 total with the adults).
Tomorrow is Nat’l Walk and Roll to School Day so I’m spending the evening laying out signs for the bike bus “stops” along the route.

Fire in the Sky. Had no business watching this as a 9 yr old. I stayed late to watch it at a friend’s house and had to ride my bike home in the dark.
In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?
City contractors on their first day on Earth: “Of course we know how to install bike racks!”
Has anyone taken an electric cargo bike on the Paulus Hook Ferry?
Somebody get that kid and iPad and get him off the streets!
Who’s got Hoboken or Newark recs? I’ll be visiting in a couple weeks and want to get put on some of that east coast urbanism.
Damn, I just skated at the DIY here the other day.

Thinking about visiting Philly for the day on 7/30. It would be my first time. Anyone want to hang out or ride bikes?
I like traffic filters on residential streets and I cannot lie.
This is public joy. This is eyes on the street.

Fun fact: our roads are also too big, which encourages people to drive too fast, because fire departments demand to use the biggest trucks. The rest of the world survives just fine with smaller trucks. But no, not us. This is America. And that’s why people drive 40 down your street.
"Bike lanes are ableist; not everyone can cycle." "Public transport takes time & resource to improve & isn't usably comprehensive." "We must install curbside EV chargers everywhere immediately. [sound of ignoring disabled pedestrians, bus & micromobility users' objections]" Disabled non-drivers:
My bike is my favorite fashion accessory. This was a "surprise" dress 👗 gift from my husband and I brought it home for them to see it out in the wild.
Every time I see this bike I make a mass transit joke and no one even laughs. 😢
Vous ne verrez rien de plus iconique aujourd'hui.... 😍
Economics aside, 4-6 story midrises can make for some outstanding gentle density.
Spending time in France and Switzerland, it’s clear that the “missing middle” in North America isn’t townhouses and duplexes. It’s mid-rises. Especially mid-rise neighbourhoods. Our denser urban fabric (Montreal, Chicago, etc.) is still mostly 2-3 storeys, not 4-8 like is so common here.
I’m officially CPTED certified now and my official recommendation is to put skateable benches everywhere to “activate the space.”
