The most exhausting thing about the HP handwringing is the IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO PEOPLE I went to every movie opening night. I waited in line for the books. I was 10 when the first movie hit, I grew up with it. And I threw it all out because that woman hates me and those like me. It's that easy.
This applies to everything, for the record. The theme park. The video games. Fanfic. All of it. JKR owns Harry Potter. Singularly. It is HER franchise, full stop. Even if you try and justify whatever fan-created works you like as not giving her money, it still promotes the franchise as an entity

I will dislike you. I will think you don't care about trans people. That's it. It's been years. There's no wiggle room. No qualifiers. You care or you don't.

listen i love ao3 as much as the next guy but ive seen people quit fic writing over the past few years because people comment and engage with authors way less, and then everyone still freaks out when ao3 goes down- if a fic is irreplaceable to u, let the author know!
