wondering if mainstream Dem leaders are going to accept that they need to take the left seriously, or if they’re just going to keep dismissing what voters are clearly telling them.

i mean, i don’t know why her family came to the US, but unless it was the Korean empire sending them to violently possess the land, no, i would not consider them colonizers. that doesn’t mean they haven’t benefited from colonialism, but I see Hong working against that system w her politics.

i happen to think those are quite solid principles to have, and that more Americans than you might expect are open to them right now.

well, in my experience, anti-Thanksgiving sentiment is rooted in anti-colonialism, and its very close cousin, anti-imperialism. as in, anti- the kind of American imperialism that has us invading Venezuela, bombing Iran, and aiding a genocide in Palestine.

at first, it might seem like focusing on a dumb thing (“seriously? an old tweet about thanksgiving??”), but it does speak to how @francescahongwi.bsky.social is likely to govern—that she’ll take people seriously who say they’ve been harmed by oppressive systems.
