Here is a baseball take: Fernando Valenzuela belongs in the Hall of Fame and the veterans committee should put him in. Amazing pitcher. Global phenomenon. Cool screwball. Kept going for decades even after his arm practically fell off. And you can't tell the story of the sport without him.

Good article! Seattle’s low park factor is a kitchen sink of issues, to which I’ll add one more fun fact not mentioned herein: Seattle has MLB’s strongest gravity. A fly ball in Miami will travel about a foot farther than the same ball in Seattle, just from the difference in earth’s gravity alone.

A lot of people know Baseball Prospectus because of the stats stuff, and that's fine. But it's also been the best destination for weirdo essays, commentary, and historical baseball writing for years. That's why I subscribe, and why I think other people should too.
