Since @weatherapplied.com has Citi Field modeled, I was hoping I could give some wind insights about this game, but even though there's about 10 mph winds outside the stadium, the wind on the field is only about 1-2 mph. I don't know no wind is good or bad when the air is full of smoke particles.
Making history in NYC 👏 The matchup between Gotham FC vs. Washington Spirit is the first-ever women’s sporting event held at Citi Field. #NWSLRivalries | Ally
#USA vs #BEL World Cup round of 16 coming soon! I made a weather impact preview for @weatherapplied.com about how the weather will affect ball flight during the game. It's not the most weather-impacted game of the tournament, but there's some ball movement happening. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IZW...

The weather in this afternoon's game between France and Paraguay in Philadelphia will be interesting, so I made a video about it for the brand new @weatherapplied YouTube Channel. If you want to see us make more such videos, subscribe to the channel. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRA5...

The same comparison occurred to me. The worst part is, I’m not sure I want to watch any more of this World Cup because there’s no way the sequels will be as good as the original.
Cape Verdeans are now honorary Philadelphians because that was basically ROCKY. They weren't "supposed" to be there, much less going the distance with the champions and the GOAT, who had to give it everything they've got just to eek out a win in overtime. Bravo.
70 F (21 C) temps, 340 NNW 18 mph winds for #USA-#BIH. That's a wind that hits the scoreboard on the north side. On the field, there's a 1-5 mph swirling clockwise eddy on the north side (left on TV), and a 5-10 mph crosswind on the south (right on TV side).
Kalmar Union FTW! Let's go Kalmar Union!
The country that lies farther west has won all four games in the round of 32. I am hereby reestablishing the Kalmar Union to help Norway and Sweden in tomorrow's matchups. That's as good a reason to lay claim to Greenland as any.

There's an article here about PNC Park that mentions @weatherapplied.com. The way the sentence is constructed it makes it sounds like WAM says that the wind blows out at PNC Park 58% of the time. But that's not from us. We wouldn't talk about it in those terms. lancasteronline.com/sports/mlb/w...
Levi's weather report at kickoff for Jordan vs Algeria: 333 degree NNW wind, 16 mph. At field level, this means 1-5 mph winds, with a clockwise eddy on the north (left to camera) side of the field centered at the top of the 18 yard box. The south (right) side of the field has a crosswind.
Fun fact: not infrequently, I mistype "Weather Applied" as "Weather Appier." That makes me think of a time during a 2000 ALDS pregame warmup, where New York Yankees players were in the outfield, taking turns to see which one of them could imitate Kevin Appier's distinctive pitching motion the best.
There’s a reasonable chance that USA will play against Sweden on July 1 at Levi’s^H^H^H^H^H San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. I can’t go, but that would be a helluva thing for a Bay Area Swedish-American to miss.

Yes, and @weatherapplied.com also supplies pitch-by-pitch temperature and pressure to MLB. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's made its way into the drag calculations, either.
And I think the temperature value is at game time, but I'm not sure. Probably less important, but perhaps inportant.
I'd take Savant's drag numbers with a grain of salt, because the calculation uses velocity relative to the ground instead of velocity relative to the air. To use the latter, you need pitch head/tailwinds, which @weatherapplied.com supplies to MLB but hasn't yet been incorporated into Savant's drag.
@kenarneson.bsky.social Hi Ken — apologies for barging into your inbox here but you piqued my curiosity with this: bsky.app/profile/kena... That surprised me given Savant’s drag numbers and the huge uptick in homers in recent weeks. From your vantage point, does it look like the same ball?
The weather at kickoff inside "San Francisco Bay Area Stadium" for #AUT vs #JOR is 63 F (17 C), with 13 mph (21 kph) winds from 334° NNW, according to our @weatherapplied.com data.
I guess if I put Sweden's 5-1 win in the middle, I can get some 4-1 victory symmetry by putting USA on one side and Norway, which I consider my third country because my mom was born there, on the other.
Here I was all prepared to post how cool it was for this dual citizen that both USA and Sweden won their first games 4-1, but then Sweden had to go and score another one right at the end to ruin the symmetry.

I thought the orange vs blue game was over, why are they still playing on my TV? #FIFAWorldCup
Wirtz ist das Nübel git und Schlotterbeck? Ja! Beier Raum das Anton die Havertz Karl gersput!
One hour before kickoff at "San Francisco Bay Area Stadium", and it's 69 F (20.5 C) with 2-3 mph (3-5 kph) winds. So that's nice, unless you're weird like me and you root for the weather to do weird things with the ball. #FIFAWorldCup
All these great passes in tight spaces. Who put the American flag on Team Spain's kits?
Three red cards in one game? That’s nothin’, wake me up when they start approaching eight
This is why @weatherapplied.com puts sensors inside ballparks and doesn't just rely on weather service data: there's currently 12 foot difference in fly ball distance between the west side of San Francisco and the east side just from temperature alone.
Noon update: Mid-60s at the beach and mid-90s in the Mission District. Yikes!
Three ( #SWEWNT, #USWNT, #GSV ) of my four favorite women’s sports teams played today, and the one that didn’t play ( #BayFC ) had a player in each of the other two soccer games.
Valkyries top Phoenix 87-81 Tense ending after a 19-point lead in the third, but still a win. Williams and Burton with 25 points each, Valks force 16 turnovers.
Las Vegas Ballpark isn't modeled for @weatherapplied.com, so we can't calculate last night's wind impacts, but the elevation is 3,000 ft (The Strip is 2,100) and the temp was over 90 F. That combo adds ~26 feet of distance to a HR compared to 70 F at sea level. Some rules of thumb can be found here:
