A week after the Dodgers announced the signing of Jackie Robinson, Dan Daniel of The Sporting News wrote, "It is quite inconceivable that the story has received far more attention than it is worth. ... Robinson ... insofar as can be discerned, will never play for the Brooklyn club." Wow.

MLB's amateur draft has come a long way. At the inaugural draft in 1965, some teams didn't think to bring an alphabetical list and couldn't keep track of which players had been selected. As a result, several players were drafted twice. Those selections were voided.
