Has there been the documentary on how McDonald's became the so shockingly stingy? There was some massive corporate crackdown placing hard limits on squares and swapping out incorrect food orders. "I don't care how lactose intolerant you are that bacon McGriddle with cheese better be fully intact"

Activision Halo... Activision Halo... Activision Halo... Activision Halo... Why did Activision Halo... Activision Halo... Why did Activision Halo happen? Why is Activision Halo? So Halo just sucks shit forever now? The fuck is the Activision going to do with Halo???? At least Marathon exists

I hate video essay framing devices so much, I've maybe only seen it done well like one time and yeah there are some otherwise very good channels that do it constantly and it hurts my soul every single time

Fighting Games and MTG have the exact same combo problem lol. Your ability to execute longer combos than an opponent is it similar advantage to having better cards. Juggling for 79% hp in an FG and combining off in Magic are equally boring for the other player.

Google has this stupid thing where it gives you AI prompts to use based upon your history and it's just so sad and dumb. I knew the Tarkov one would be wrong and sure enough even though it's supposedly drawing info from those sources it's EXTREMELY wrong. Context searching is bullshit

'Semantic Search' is the sole remaining cited actual use case for AI so you hear the people that are very tepid AI boosters, the kind that you see on very anti-AI places like the tech report, talk about it like it's extremely useful and borderline revolutionary. In reality its use is extremely niche

And for all the talk of all the boosters and all of the actual component programs that swear by it, we have yet to see a single good or even impressively scaled product come out of it. The way they talk about it you'd think someone woulda made a proprietary engine for a AAA scale game by now lol

"Unparalleled by humans" and yet it makes *at least* one, if not several, absolute dogshit decisions every single day that are so bad that even a junior dev would probably avoid them. If I did that at work I would probably be shitcanned.

I don't think we talk enough about how awful it is that the term AI has been completely co-opted by LLMs and shit like it (no I do not like the term generative AI). I see laymen all the time and unrelated video essay is going "AI isn't all bad, even video games have AI"

It's tempting to blame content creators but no way, Halo 5's story was awful on a level that's difficult to describe. The culture vultures rarely are able to sway opinion, but basically nobody liked Halo 5. A new thing can be bad entirely on it's own independent from nostalgia for the old thing.

At this point I think Halo is cooked and it's cooked because of content creators because those guys will never be happy with a Halo game unless it perfectly replicates the exact same feelings they had when they were 14 which is impossible because they're all pushing 40

Nothing lasts forever, even Roblox. You can't treat creatives just getting started in the industry like shit forever, eventually the kids who made all the things people like playing will grow up and move on. They coulda been less greedy and lasted longer but they didn't and now they'll crumble.

Roblox blames falling player numbers and in-game spending on its push to recommend less slop to kids, and there being no replacement for last year's viral hit Grow a Garden. https://bit.ly/4yXf1HH
