Venomous, egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal. Wait, that's a platypus. Fan of compound adjectives. I buy & sell antiques & vintage & am a hobby ceramic artist. Rural, progressive mom of 2 adult trans kids. Loves rocks & mushrooms.

People who meet me in the summer have a very different impression of me than people who meet me in the winter. I'm pretty tomboy-ish in the summer, scraped knees & tan, then full goth white by October & full cozy lump of blankets from Nov 1st-April.

I wish I could show y'all the way my leg got fucked up by sedge grass at the river this weekend. One single blade grabbed me, outter upper midthigh, & took skin off in a giant scrape clear to my inner ankle. Happened in a second. I got the "touch grass" directions wrong & the grass touched me 😭

My house is getting a little out of control again & I started my "clean the kitchen like mad while waiting for the coffee to brew" back up & it is annoying how much difference even a couple focused minutes makes.

Long distance calling. 40 years ago, my little home town had to call long distance for police or fire. 911 has DEFINITELY improved. Lord, the indoor smoking! Cars: mileage, emissions, crash safety, etc Cancer prevention & treatment (the HPV shots alone!) Global child mortality has dropped by ~60%

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime

question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*?

like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

We spent 4 hours at the river yesterday & couldn't see or otherwise sense the smoke until we got out from on the water. Today, there is no mistaking it. My lungs are gross, my eyes itch, we're all exhausted. We're in a heat wave & won't be able to open the windows. And this has been a "GOOD" year.

The street my dad grew up on in Spokane is on fire. This fire is terrifying. Hoping everybody evacs safely & without delay & fire crew stays safe. Eastern WA & OR are having a terrible fire season

Gift alert if you have a dad in your life to shop for! I think they're only for sale through August. It was a real missed opportunity that they didn't make this a gift set with a tiny can. And maybe the tiny holster. But it's still fun & useful.

A woman's hand holding a can of King of the Hill special edition WD-40 in a hardware store. Meme with a screen shot of Hank from King of the Hill spraying a normal sized can of WD40 with a tiny can of WD40 & text reading The best joke in TV history is when Hank Hill can't get the cap off a can of WD40 so he pulls out second, mini can of WD40 to lubricate it.

This cis straight woman is not scared of trans women. I have DOZENS of trans women in my life & the most I've ever had to worry about with any of them is that sometimes they compliment me too much & I get embarrassed by the attention. 🫣 Being shitty to trans people means you are a shitty person.

Please don't get a freaking HOUND as a pet if you're just going to lock it outside in an outdoor kennel all day every day 😭 That poor dog & poor everybody in the neighborhood! He's also setting off every other dog for blocks. Stand down, Twilight Bark, false alarm!

My kids grew up homeschooled with 99% home cooked meals. In order to give them a less regimented education & fewer "processed foods", they would've had to be outside naked & eating bugs all day. In order to not have ADHD, they would have needed different parents & grandparents: ones without ADHD.

“While traits of ADHD undeniably exist – the question is why they exist. Is ADHD actually a neurodevelopmental disorder? Do people with ADHD have differently wired brains? Or does our world – with…processed food, and regimented education – serve as the catalyst for certain…patterns of behaviour?”

First gallon of plums picked & in the fridge. Trying to catch them before they fall & we'll make the first batch of jam this weekend. I want plum jam to be our group gift to everybody this year.

Had the idea that, now we're going back to a physical office 3x a week, maybe I can take mixed transit: bike -> bus -> bike. Not as fast as car: 12min, but not as slow as all-bus: 75min, and less intimidating than all-bike. What kind of laptop carrier works well for this kind of mixed commute?
