Adapt 🦋 + ATproto & tropicalize it easy for other regions: LATAM + Africa + Start by journalist and independent media.
There's arguably a much larger (e.g. anti Elon/oligarch) tent that would support bluesky/atproto for this reason. How do we promote it as such/get it picked up by that larger demographic?
Ask any italian when they're paying for fuel what they think about 🇷🇺🇺🇦🇮🇷🇸🇦🇾🇪🇺🇸🇪🇺 & their government. We just feel the pain in our pockets while someone in Brussels earning way more is writing BS in a cafe (from their comfort zone)
Yes but... I understand why banning sounds enticing but you can't preach 'global' & democracy yet trade with autocratic regimes (that called themselves democracies). It's a tough convo for having with char limit. Happy to have it by VC over ☕️🍻. cc @ekazakos.bsky.social for the latter
A prediction market for peer review. Have we reached peak AI? 🤔
Have to say/rant-about it. You: Why so bitter❓ I'm not. I've not Schmidhubered anyone yet. I dislike the hype that impacts underrepresented & unheard voices. Actually, Ppl despairing as AI disrupted science 😭, the science elite broke it earlier (read history: Galileo, Newton, etc.) 🤓. Heil AI!
A glimpse into #computervision history. The inaugural #ECCV1990 was held over 4 days in Antibes, France. • ~40 attendees • 63 accepted papers • 60 oral presentations • 20 posters • 13 sessions Fast forward 36 years. How times have changed!
Lol framing relationships in a top-down manner is quite a thing, look at history. Eventually, those at the bottom challenge it (revolution, conspiration, ...). Wonder from a sociological & math/algo pov if someone has derived the optimal level of a hierarchical tree for N humans.
Pretty funny questions on the QA platform
We’re sharing the engineering work behind Ai2’s GPU scheduler—our new approach to allocating compute across research teams. On our largest H100 cluster, median queue wait fell from 5 minutes to 24 seconds. 🧵 buff.ly/4UsJEYe

How does the future looks alike for Europe in 5-10 years? Back to tech brands? Renaissance of industrial & manufacturing brands? Biggest obstacle imho is EU itself 🇪🇺 (as in Brussels), a costly fabricated bubble (lawyers/lobby, politicians, etc) disconnected from the reality of the territory.
Whatever you think of what happens in geopolitics lately, it has a really good side effect on Europe's efforts to create and to push its own global payment system. Which cannot be sanctioned (and whose benefits stay in the region).
Funny to find that today 😂 My kid mimics the sounds she hears. While changing her this morning, I told my wife, "Today, we have a stochastic parrot." 👶: "palot" Me: "Not random! It's stochastic." 🤓 Wife: 🙄 Wife's mind: whatever, both of you are random to me.
This talk by @himself.bsky.social was wonderful. Models mechanize, map, + remix the "house of intellect", connecting together previously disconnected hallways of knowledge. LLMs are not stochastic parrots but mechanical bards. Cites: Jacques Barzun, Albert B. Lord, Nestor Guillen, Herbert Simon

Any sons of Clausius, Boltzmann, or Shannon 😉 over here? Don't despair, embrace entropy 💪 www.norvig.com/chomsky.html

Most of the focus on AI for math has been on producing new results. But surprisingly little on finding simpler or more elegant arguments for old results? I would love for folks to clean up the literature using these newfound superpowers. 1/n
Keeping up with AI hype, one throwback movie meme at a time 🎬🤖
Yo, anyone else getting déjà vu from all this AI hype? 👀
7/ FWIW there's a more accessible version of my view on the topic here in @noemamag.com noemamag.com/the-mytholog..., and also a short TED talk from earlier this year www.ted.com/talks/anil_s...
The Mythology Of Conscious AI | NOEMA
Why consciousness is more likely a property of life than of computation and why creating conscious, or even conscious-seeming AI, is a bad idea.

@niessner.bsky.social Analysis of authorship in CV, ML, Graphics since 2006. Unroll thread 👇🏼 threadreaderapp.com/thread/21038... The observations seems fine. Yet, ❓ Am I the only one who prefers that anyone doing such claims provide the data or code (data analysis: scraping & ETLs)?
Yep! The best sport/hobby for disconnecting myself that I've ever practiced it's scuba diving 🤿 I block any unrelated thought by remembering that there are almost zero chances for me to be in the same spot in the same state (Heraclitus mindset 🧠🧘🏽)
scuba is the chillest activity and unironically this is a big reason why
Unpopular take (mostly self-criticism): we need to stop waisting our time rebuilding incumbent social media apps on #atproto This will only convert a fraction of the users this ecosystem needs. We need to build new, interoperable experiences.
@ec.europa.eu 💔🤕 once someone told me: "Have you ever thought that if your life would be easier as asylum immigrant than 'expat'?"
What fresh hell is this? Scholar inbox now comes with 2 min podcasts of each paper... I randomly choose two relocalization papers and they both started with "Imagine navigating a large, dark warehouse" ... No - I do not want to imagine this. Was this trained on YouTube slasher flicks? Why "dark"?!

End of summer vibes.
I'm not sure I agree with @giorgio.gilest.ro's logic that this ends up with technofeudalism. Yes LLM-written papers are flooding journals, but that's because journals are and always were a bad tool for filtering for insight. Our response should be to try something different.
"All corners of academia will soon be flooded with AI-generated research....Maths and CS go first because their entire output is symbol manipulation...Biology comes later not because biologists are cleverer but because the rate-limiting step is physical" giorgio.gilest.ro/the-weimar-o...
Amazing little feature on bsky -- automatic indicator of number tweets in the thread.
@csprofkgd.bsky.social with a hypothetical & raising awareness based on a concern, as academics often do. Then, @michael-j-black.bsky.social strengthen the hypothesis Yet, still NO solution offered 😥. So, some academics are great trouble makers 😉
