Scoiattolo@scoiattolo.mountainherder.xyz · 4w agoI wish "For you" had a slightly stronger variant of "show less like this" which is "don't show me this user in this feed". Like there are a few people I don't want to block, but I just don't want time in my daily driver feed.
Friends don't let friends use the Discover feed.
For You is down because the hosting provider (OVH) seems to have issues.
For You now onboards new users with a curated list of interest posts to like. It's an upgrade over: "go like some posts elsewhere and come back".

Created an account that lists each interest as a separate post: @picker.foryou.club Help seed it by liking the interest posts that match what you use Bluesky for. When new users join and like one of those interests you will become one of the curators of their For You feed.

Ok, Bluesky does not pass the user's selected interests to custom feeds like For You. But what if For You has it's own interest picker - show a list of canned posts that name an interest: - art - gaming - tech - atproto ...

Some hybrid approach might work, but I don't know how you don't end up with Discover again. Peek mode links kinda solve this: bsky.app/profile/fory... Especially if they could be embedded into starter packs.
For You will be down for ~20-60 minutes - I will be upgrading my computer's ram from 96GB to 192GB. I've been hitting uncomfortably high memory usage levels (90%+) and it is time to bite the bullet. I bought an identical kit a year ago and the new kit is exactly 7x more expensive.
It is easy to assume that everyone who follows you has already heard about For You. I wrote a tool to get the % of your followers who have opened For You at least once. For me it is 85% - and all I talk about is For You 🤔 Reply if you want to see your result.

Have you accidentally pressed "show less like this" when you meant "more like this"? Or liked a post that you feel ruined your For You? You can now correct that in foryou.club/profile You can delete your "show more/less" and likes there.
You can let others view your For You feed: 1. Open foryou.club/profile 2. Press "create peek link" 3. Copy the link and share it with others They would: 1. Open the link and confirm that they want to turn their For You feed into yours 2. Open For You and see what you see until they decide to stop

How about this - you create a For You "peek" link which other people can use to temporarily turn their For You into your For You. They get to see how you curated your feed.

Using likes/posts/follows you can see who is active or dormant on ATProto. The headline is that only 5% of users are retained at 28d and 10% of current users churn. That's not pretty
If you use a self-hosted PDS then the For You feed was not working very well for you most (or some?) of the time. The issue had to do with the authorization token that For You gets from the Bluesky's AppView. For self-hosted PDS users the token has the "aud" value set to "did:web:api.bsky.app" ...
If your non-Following feeds (For You, Discover) are stuck showing you content in one language then check whether you have Content Languages setting set to that language. To fix it and see content without the language filtering: 1. Go to Settings > Languages 2. Uncheck all "Content Languages"

PSA: You can now see how many impressions and likes your posts got through the For You feed: foryou.club/stats The stats used to work only for active users of For You. Now they work for everyone.
