Hey y'all. So normally I am a reasonably private person despite appearances which makes this sort of humiliating. My life is more or less in the process of burning down. There's a family wedding coming up in 3 weeks. I'd like to go.

ActivityPub and the like are fixes to prevent future problems like the social media monopsony that currently exists, but that doesnt mean Zuck shouldn’t be held accountable. We shouldn’t let oil companies off the hook for trashing the planet because we could all just use solar.

... the answer is to not use platforms like Insta, and bring communities to social media built on open protocols, such as atproto or ActivityPub, where the account holder has way more control.

California’s billionaires have a combined net worth of $2.4 trillion. Under Prop 40, their net worth would fall to…just under $2.3 trillion. What amounts to a rounding error for them would allow millions of their fellow Californians to afford healthcare. Vote yes on Prop 40.

The ultra-rich are spending one million dollars a day fighting California’s proposed billionaire tax

The US does not currently have an ambassador to the DRC. The administration has stated its derision towards African countries. The “shithole countries” remark reflects the US governments current “Africa policy” it’s only interests being blocking China from accessing minerals, and warfare.

It’s worth pointing out that until 2016 the US ambassador to Kenya was always a career diplomat as the post was considered highly politically sensitive. Since 2016, there have been long stretches without an ambassador and a succession of political appointees with limited diplomatic knowledge.

The DRC and Kenya are also critical US allies in both the deportation racket that is underway, in critical mineral supply for the ongoing AI semiconductor boom, and in military cooperation. Basically these countries are getting away with lax oversight because they are Trump allies.

One of the first acts of the current US administration was leaving the World Health Organisation, the institution that coordinates multilateral public health responses. The dismantling of USAID has also compromised support for community health workers who are the frontline of disease responses.

Contact tracing is underway but part of the reason why they believe he sought healthcare in Kenya is that the quality of care in the DRC is being compromised as exhausted workers navigate depleted supplies and lack of international support even as politics in the country heats up.

The worst Ebola outbreak in the world is ongoing in the DRC and you’re not being informed about it in part because the reason it is spiralling is US politics. At least one person who was suffering from the disease crossed into Uganda by road and then flew from Kampala to Nairobi where he died.

the company's total revenue in 2025 was $23 million. it was spending $18.5 million per month before legal fees (and it has been sued in a suicide case + is facing tons of regulatory scrutiny). it could barely cover one month of expenses with its revenue for the entire year

On the Techjess podcast, Garriott marveled at how easy it was: "there’s a really weird copyright law that says if you're the original holder of a copyright and you assign it or sell it to any publisher or any other entity, after 35 years, you can just take it back": www.youtube.com/watch?v=2El7...
