This is an enlightening read on how industry funding can shape the direction of science, both subtly and less so. The “Carbon Wedges” paper certainly influenced how I viewed climate mitigation strategies as a college student. Its ripple effects in the policy arena are unquantifiable but profound.

I changed my major and career plans after a summer spent in his group, around his gentle curiosity. He taught me that science is inseparable from the people who do it. I’ll miss him greatly.

Jorge was a model leader; thoughtful, compassionate, and an excellent scientist. His leadership of @soccomproject.bsky.social transformed @bgc-argo.bsky.social into a global system.
