I dusted off and plugged in my seven year old Sisyphus mini sand table and it still works!

Perlin noise flow field pattern. Particles follow a noise flow field that slowly evolves over time. The flow field has a strong upward bias. Each particle leaves a fading trail drawn from the currently selected color palette. Particles respawn at the bottom when they drift off-screen or age out.
