Really enjoy the advancements in ML. Hate social impact. People confuse tech and politics. Been reading a lot of Marxist theory in relation to AI. They have it so nailed. People before profit, environmentally responsible deployment and post scarcity mindset.

Holy Shit! Blick is great NLE video editor. SPEED IS THE FEATURE! It's basic, but honestly for 95% of cases it does the job. No-one making complex videos will be satisfied with beta but you have quick edits you need or rough cuts. This is GOOD! blickeditor.com

I hate this whole, "we made a mistake telling everyone to learn to code". No coding skills are logic and reasoning. Classic code degrees are more math than anything else. It's like saying studying English is useless because we have spell/ grammer check.
The meta build is slightly delayed by some rendering issues which I'm chasing down but this is a massive update under the hood as I'm prepping for multiple ports and a lot of cool tech changes.
The Summer Super Patch is here, and it is our biggest technical patch yet. Godot 4.7 upgrade! Boards rebuilt, big speed ups, GPU vector fonts, Sudoku number tally and ton of QOL changes! Full notes: www.flammablepenguins.com/augmental_puzzles/patch_2026_summer.html
Recipes are full of long narratives and junk text because you can't protect a recipe. To earn money they put in stuff you can copyright. People forget that the point was to promote the public domain and increase circulation, not profit. That's why recipes, sewing patterns ect... can't be protected
Gamescom - Booth Issues Galaktus informed us they didn't secure their block booking for the area. So our stand was part of that. Not sure how this affects things yet. Looking into options and solutions today. Anyone got any ideas?
Saw this awesome warp culling on splats talk at HPG while rewatching the live stream. Awesome re-examination of the blend problem youtu.be/2fxqZfBi1YY?... I do love the vibe of splats and GS are so simple in concept, complex in execution which is my fav kind. @mmalex.bsky.social you seen this?

Got two fund rejections, some bad news from a HW vendor and well let's just say bad news piled up a bit. Though I also got a lot of support from friends and generous help so it balances out and we keep on going. #gamedev
Such a bloody scam the train was 30 minutes late. It obviously was 30 minutes late and closer to 31 minutes. Does any independent body actually audit the train arrival times or do train companies self report? It always seems to be one minute under the threshold 🤔
Really chuffed to be featured on graphics programmer weekly for my develop talk. Though today is all about build failures, linker errors and linux. Though as an aside discovered source of some bad perf. MultiMesh / instancing was not the right call for the play grid, switching to mesh gen.
Made at home recording of my Develop talk this week to share on YouTube and a blogpost version for people who prefer to read. #godot #porting #psvr2 #gamedev #ps5 claire-blackshaw.com/blog/2026/07...

That said outside of specific exceptions (mostly based around habit and nostalgia) more and more I consider "general" gamedev gatherings no longer worth it. Needs a filter of some kind. Hyper local, specialist discipline, invite or platform/tech specific.
Develop is done. Had fun, saw friends Sun cooked me and I suffered in the heat. Talk was poorly attended but I'm happy with it will try get an extended video and blog post out for it this weekend. Overall good time. Though I should be doing more meetings, quiet breakfasts and less parties
Off to Brighton I go. Happy to start with the skate before it gets too warm. After that I'll be at the #godot meetup so say hi. Also this is too damn early 😅
Develop @ Brighton. Say Hi TUE: GameDev Skate, Godot Meetup & Feast of Dev WED: Brilliant Indie Treasures & GI.biz THU: TALK & Weird Worlds Have some meetings, left open slots. Will try checked bsky occasionally. If you have my 📱🔢 text/signal/whatsapp is best
Getting ready for develop and there is a really cool event on Thursday I want to go to but past experience has taught me. #LastTrain There is a midnight drunk train but I'm too tired for that
Sequential 1gig read PS4/10+ year old pc ~10 SECONDS 5 year old PC / Steamdeck ect... ~300ms Gen 5 NVMe in PC / PS5 ~150ms Yet people are still building like we are in PS3/360 era!!! memmap your shit, esp with modern native OS prims Fucking redundant memcpy BS.
Sometimes I talk to younger devs and they are like, its only 2mb texture. I shipped Nintendo DS games that didn't full up an 8mb cart. We had less than 1mb of hot ram and 32KB working memory! You know how hard it is to get a chess AI to run in that #gamedev #opt

TIL that UK film The Red Shoes (1948) 15min ballet climax of the film was the source of the high art dance climax. American in Paris (1951) 17min dance number climax and film structure was a direct adaptation for US audiences. Leads to other most famously La La Lands 7min dance bit
If your going to Develop this week I'm speaking but more important we are skating so quads and inlines 🛼 if your free Tue 10:30 we are going to a light social skate along the seaside before its too hot #gamedev #InlineSkating #QuadSkating

When thinking about #VR and Volumetics/Polygons I often think how being right and early is often worse than being slow and wrong. The boomerang was 100% the right design influenced by actual ergonomic studies but after the backlash it took two console cycles to get there.
Vertex 2013-2026 Picked up his ashes today, been grieving for weeks and still fresh as fuck
Giving a talk at Develop next week on start VR studio around #Godot and the porting to #ps5 & #psvr2 work we are doing. www.developconference.com/speakers/cla... So if your in Brighton next week can't wait to catch up
