hi, i just woke up from a 20 year coma. the last thing i remember was watching christopher hitchens youtube vids. i have luckily woken up just in time to weigh in this specific news story about academic freedom being under attack, and no others. i look forward to a spirited discourse with you all

Finally, we analyzed associations with fictional predictors to demonstrate that the evolutionary explanation is no better than any other explanation one can come up with by correlating gender differences with any variables higher in the West, such as a medical conspiracy. The average correlations between gender differences and our fictional explanations are presented in Table 2 (see SI Appendix, Table S3.1.1 and section 3.1 for a detailed table for each study, together with motivations for the fictional explanations). All variables were comparable or stronger predictors than gender equality, and no predictor had stronger overall correlations than the simple Western indicator. The same was true in comparison to other developmental variables (see below). Consequently, if the GEP had been picked up by people forwarding any of these alternative accounts, rather than evolutionary researchers, they would have found just as much support for their assertions from these data. Thus, there is no evidence that the predictors identified by the evolutionary perspective have any special relationship with the gender differences, or display discriminant validity, as expected if they drove the association. Rather, all relationships appeared to be a consequence of the variables’ association with the West.
