Bathroom ban guidance goes into effect today. A notable moment - the most far-right policy enacted by Labour by a fair bit and a nuke against the party's liberal credentials. Also fucking sucks for trans people and won't stop TERFs demanding more erasure.
I agree with folks like Zitron but: 1. I think the investment is a prisoner's dilemma, and thus is not self-correctable by any actor. Everyone has to make a bad decision to avoid a worse one. 2. I think it's a trade on belief in the magic infinite growth of those four, not LLMs.
It sounds insane to say this ends with detonating a megacorp or two, but my logic's pretty simple - cloud service provision is a utility and as adoption matures innovation slows and prices are driven down. These companies must expand their cloud service provision infinitely to keep their valuations.
Boosters think they'll make a billion people jobless, skeptics think this ends up with OpenAI and Anthropic going to zero, I think this ends with the collapse and bailout of at least one of M$/Google/Meta/Amazon - and the timeline for that is ~2030, not ~2027.
It's late July and my read on the LLM bubble has not changed - it's a bubble caused by the markets having unshakeable belief in M$/Facebook/Google/Amazon to print money no-matter what happens, so the logic is that the worst you get is a slow puncturing.
Number 10 North is one of those things which after about two years is basically going to be impossible for any future PM to go without. Having staff that can commute to work from Bury and work in a sane office block is just incredibly obvious and will massively help the PM get stuff done.

I said when digital ID was proposed that it was a bad idea as it was compulsory. They made it non-compulsory, and thus was a good idea. Scrapping it is sort of surface-level: a free centralized identity provider is just obviously useful. Could run it via the Passport Office tbh.

Lowering platform fees generally is badly needed - Valve's defences against why not for their platform is just "monopolies happen because customers like them" and "the walled gardens are worse". Less landlords = more money for devs = more game variety.

Bet for the Steam Machine is $1199/£979 and it disappearing into out-of-stock immediately. Any more than that and it's completely pointless vs just buying a laptop with a 5050 in it.

The Deck is now an incredibly, incredibly stupid buy whilst the Legion Go S can still be found in the UK for less than £500 (Costco has it for £400). Valve is also paying for the Claw A8 to get good Linux support and you can find that for £850 (Currys), and it has 2x the performance.

Read @edzitron.com 's free piece today and I just ended up thinking of my experience leaving Develop Brighton in 2022 or so - listening to gaming execs proudly explain how they built companies by spending VC money. I called it "Posh Southern White Guy Syndrome" but didn't like the term. (Thread)
Laptop shopping sucks right now: after a lot of searching I am down to two options: 1. A refurbished £1.5k Lenovo which is stuck with 8GB VRAM (not future proofed or VRChat-safe) 2. A new £2.1k HP with 12GB VRAM :(
I'm not gonna finish this but I was testing out using some HMD glasses to put reference on when drawing. So I drew the Endmin from Endfield. Really rusty digitally but it was good to bust out the tablet and stuff
