Victoria’s cruise port is in the city’s highest-density residential n’hood, which also hosts many city events as Victoria’s ‘living room.’ Today at 5pm Snowbirds give a show drawing 30K-40K+ to the area. Port is prime viewing spot. Roads closed. Traffic hell. Norwegian Joy arrives 1pm. Good luck.
Tonight Victoria hosts Carnival Spirit for its weekly pit stop. It’s a regulatory stop to comply with an 1886 American law, and will likely drop off a week’s worth of Alaska cruise garbage so as not to inconvenience Seattle. Look at all the pollution we get in return. youtu.be/0x1ettloXtc

July cruise ships in Victoria recap: 66 ship calls. 97% of those were regulatory stops required to comply with an 1886 American law. Total hours of emissions while in port: 443 hours (no shore power here.) Percentage of ships arriving after 6pm: 56% (because of regulatory calls.) We’re a pit stop.
After a 3-ship Friday night in Victoria, we follow that up with a 3-ship Saturday night: tonight’s lineup of cruise ships making regulatory stops in Victoria is Star, Noordam, Encore. How much garbage they’ll leave here is a secret but these images show what we discovered Encore might leave.
