"It's set up in such a skewed way that people win seats with less than 30 per cent of the vote. Governments now are formed with 30 per cent of the popular vote." Doesn't sound like representative government to us. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Canada's unity crisis is worsened by a voting system that locks voters out. @beachmagoo.bsky.social points out in the Calgary Herald that proportional representation ensures every region’s political diversity shows up in Ottawa instead of provincial monoliths. calgaryherald.com/opinion/albe...

There should be a separatist party, people deserve representation. Many Albertans hold moderate conservative views, but their only option was the big-tent conservative party. In winner-takes-all systems like ours, centrist parties are too easily influenced by activists and money.

Albertans are practical people. We trust fairness. We value accountability. And we know that polarization won’t fix itself. If we want a healthier, more cooperative politics—one that reflects who we really are—it’s time to rebuild the foundation of our democracy. #alberta

when an MP crosses the floor, it raises a fair question: whose seat is it really? We like to think it belongs to the voters. But in practice, it belongs to the politician. In a minority government, that’s undue influence, a major flaw in our First Past the Post system.

A huge thank you to Shane Getson for presenting our petition to the legislature. We hope the UCP as whole will join us in our desire for an independent citizen's assembly to strengthen and modernize our democracy.

Proportional representation is a principle which says if a party gets 40% of the vote they get about 40% of the seats. Almost every voter would help elect an MP who shares their values. With proportional representation, almost every vote would count. Voters would be fairly represented.
