9/ "When people start buying gasoline "just in case," the demand on gas stations increases faster than the usual supply schedule. Stations empty their tanks faster, tankers can't always deliver more, and drivers see the "out of fuel" sign and become even more frightened.

8/ "And now people who hadn't planned to fill up that morning are heading to the stations simply because "everyone else is going." The result is a spiralling shortage:

7/ "Photos and videos from the gas stations quickly spread on social media, along with the usual question: "What if we run out of fuel soon?" The scenario is familiar. First, alarming news appears. Then, messages in chats. Then, the first queues.

6/ The fuel panic is being driven by social media, as Bloknot notes: "Drivers rushed to fill their tanks, some buying gasoline for future use."

5/ "Retail outlets are out of stock, forcing suppliers to stock empty boxes, requiring customers to pre-order with a wait time of up to 24 hours. The surge in demand has also affected related products: drivers are actively snapping up funnels, hoses, and pumps."

4/ "The price of canisters has skyrocketed by 20-40% in a short period of time. The price of a five-litre container has skyrocketed from 300 to 500 rubles, and a 20-litre container is now asking around 4,000 rubles.

3/ 'New Look' reports: "In response to government calls not to stockpile fuel, Muscovites emptied auto parts stores en masse, buying up every canister. This was immediately taken advantage of by resellers, who are now reselling the containers online at a significant markup."

2/ As the 'Intelligence Diary' Telegram channel reports: "Russia is gripped by a fuel panic. People are buying up gasoline by the hundreds of litres. There are huge queues at gas stations. Prices are rising. It's a real fuel scare. A true gasoline vendetta."

1/ Russia's fuel crisis isn't just about a lack of fuel being produced by refineries. The country is in the grip of a full-blown fuel panic, with people buying far more fuel than normal to get ahead of shortages and in some cases to resell fuel for profit. ⬇️
