Quickly plot the rough location of the 2025 Mw8.8 Kamchatka earthquake (USGS hypocenter) on Figure 1 in Pinegina et al. (2018). I wonder if the 2025 event re-rupture the northern rupture of the 1952 Mw9.0 event? Also, did the 2025 event rupture across the "segment boundary" at ~N53? rdcu.be/eyrre

Cascadia subduction zone earthquake could be even worse than feared. A once-every-500-years earthquake in the Pacific Northwest could shake for 5 minutes and cause 100-foot tsunami waves. That would be just the start of the horrors. ⏬ Bluesky bite-sized article thread (7 min) with added links 📖🍿🔊

Magical INSAR led us to rupture from the M5.8 Parker Butte Nevada earthquake. 1.5 km of surface rupture, right lateral, max offsets 2-5 cm, on NNW plane. Conjugate to NE trending aftershocks.
Quick recap from todays recon of yesterdays M5.8 earthquake. Bottom line: no surface rupture observed after several transects across aftershock pattern. Lack of any surface cracking in epicentral area. Minor bank failures, lateral spread, and liquefaction features along Walker river.
Nice to see all the posts on the CA earthquakes here today. However, still need more agencies and individuals to migrate on over. Prob best for agencies to post on multiple platforms for greatest reach.
