Having dinner at midnight and brewing a pot of strong black tea so I can sew all night after statuing all night after sewing all afternoon. Tomorrow I deliver the commission I thought was done, build fans all afternoon, statue all night, come back home, then work all night trying to finish the fans.

Nothing larger than $5s in the tip bucket last night but tons of kids tossing tons of change really added up to a solid total. Gonna need to start layering under the statue costume from now on. SO COLD. Almost went home early.

As I trudged home half-in/out of costume, a driver stopped at a red light rolled down her passenger-side window and yelled: "EXCUSE ME! THANK YOU FOR KEEPING ART ALIVE!! YOU LOOK GREAT!" I smiled big, awkwardly saluted with my fan and stammer-yelled back "OH! WOW! WHAT A NICE THING TO SAY!!"

The absolute last thing I want to do today is spend more time hauling ass to and from Granville Island than I will actually spend being there trying to make money, and yet.

As someone who believes that, in most cases, the value of art is directly proportional to how much time an artist invests in creating it, I will never be convinced that AI-generated text, images, or video could ever hold any true or honest artistic merit. Sorry not sorry.

Makeup look was especially good tonight, so I'll probably use it as one of my standards. I'm riding out the rest of the summer without a working phone camera, so you'll just have to imagine. (RIP to my good pair of half lashes that just died, though; they almost lasted the entire season. Almost.)

Richmond Night Market was BUSY. (Maybe a record earnings night for me there?) Most people I've ever seen. Parking lot almost totally full. They have one month left to enjoy it before it's gone forever and THEY KNOW IT.

Lots of things in my life are currently in limbo: phone replacement; switching internet providers; getting a perimenopause diagnosis and treatment plan going; struggling to complete a big sewing commission through intense brain fog; I'm probably forgetting something else.

Here is my tribute to the wonder and weirdness that is B.C.'s Enchanted Forest tourist attraction. No snark: it's honestly such a privilege to try and explain some of these very British Columbian culture things for the public broadcaster, and I hope this video hit the mark.

Both love and am sad for the people On social media I am seeing rediscover hobbies exist. I don’t know what the hell was so interesting on your phone this whole time but I hope you enjoy getting your life back, consider a hobby you have to meet people to do sometimes. Don’t let this happen again.

Anyways I was reminded of all this reading "Between Two Fires" by Christopher Buehlman, recently. It takes this idea and demonstrates how physically and spiritually abominable it is through medieval historical supernatural horror fiction (rather than straight-up high fantasy). Real good shit.

The thing about evil not being able to create is rooted in older Christian ideas; the power of creation belongs to God and, in a more limited way, to humans; it was denied the angels, heavenly and fallen alike. (This quote is also not attributable to Tolkein but obviously a theme in his fiction.)

Switched to a new phone plan with a new phone from a new mobility provider. Old provider's customer retention department calls me the next day and offers me $400 off the exact same new phone if I keep my service with them. It's almost like money is made up and nothing is real.

Every time you check out a library book instead of ordering from Amazon, ask a friend instead of an LLM, cook a meal instead of ordering from an app, or go for a walk instead of scrolling social media, you interrupt the cash flows of insane CEOs. Do it! Ruin their day!
