Could be worse.

You can talk about tech sovereignty and defence all you like, but it doesn't matter if you're caving in to hybrid attacks within five minutes. Might as well save the money on the weapons, frankly, if European leaders are just going to surrender to hybrid attacks like this.

Treating this as a pan-European crisis and closing borders disproportionately *encourages* other countries to use these tactics as political weapons. Sow division, isolate EU countries who are particular enemies.

A Russian drone caused a fire in a block of flats in Galati, Romania, and injured two people this morning. This is the gravest interference in the Romanian space since 2022. President Nicușor Dan summoned the Supreme Defense Council and warns a proportionate response to Russia

As a simple matter of history, this from Tony Blair is plain wrong. The last time Britain entered a structured relationship with Europe, it was for a position of profound economic weakness. Rejoining should be part of any coherent domestic strategy, as many in Labour are starting to acknowledge

Might have to do a daily reminder that UK inflation went up to 27% after an oil-price crisis in the more self-reliant 1970s. Far too many folk wanting to use every opportunity to talk up the opportunity to smash the global economy through weaponisation and self-sufficiency.

UK commits £100 million air defence package for Ukraine. £100 million sounds like a lot of money, until you consider that missile interceptors can cost $3-4 million a pop - the thing Ukraine probably needs the most. Still, well done Britain. www.gov.uk/government/n...

UK commits £100 million air defence package for Ukraine to protect cities and critical infrastructure

The UK will urgently commit an additional £100 million for air defence support to Ukraine, helping to defend the country from Russia’s relentless attacks.

Again, for emphasis: russia has not agreed to ANYTHING. Nearly 100% of the media coverage presents the current situation as: if Ukraine agrees to giving up Donbas, there will be peace. That is not the case! Stop acting as if it were.

🇺🇦 Zelensky: This is a clear lesson from history: when hatred against one people does not stop, others cannot remain indifferent and stand aside. Aggression and contempt for the lives of people and entire nations must never prevail…

Here in Europe we can only dream of having a leader who is so honest with citizens. Can you imagine a Europe where we had someone like Carney as 🇪🇺President? Instead we're stuck with von der Leyen, Rutte, Starmer, Merz, Meloni. Maybe they will actually listen to what Carney is telling them (🧵6/6)

I think a good strategy for your non-leftist social media presence (ie everywhere but here) is to give this photo - the remains of Danish soldiers returning in coffins after being killed in America's war in Afghanistan - as wide an audience as possible. Remind people who we're betraying

Three coffins wrapped in Danish flags are carried by 4-6 soldiers each; a cargo aircraft is in the background

The Trump/Greenland Crisis illustrates the importance of EU to small European nations. Before EU, they were swallowed whole by larger nations. EU support for Denmark & Greenland will increase appreciation of EU in those and other countries. The future is blocks of nations, not individual nations.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu's statement that she would vote "yes" in a hypothetical referendum on unification with Romania is still dominating the news in MD. Now premier Alexandru Munteanu said he'd also vote for unification, as would some other cabinet members ...

Hello all, just sent out my free weekend update. A special one as it’s from Ukraine. It’s clear being here that we are all taking advantage of the Ukrainians. They are fighting for their lives, and we are safe and sound behind them. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Few thoughts on the Greenland saga, summarized in a short thread. Some of these points have already sparked debate on X, but after Miller’s speech, I am even more convinced. 🧵Thread 1/ First and foremost, Denmark is not only a member of the EU, but also a founding member of NATO.
