45 YEARS AGO TODAY. The Woodhead Route was closed. 76006 & 76014 head the last electric service through Penistone shortly before 5 a.m. on the 18th of July 1981. The service was the late running Harwich to Edge Hill SpeedLink train. © Norman Daley.

If they closed road infrastructure every time there was antisocial behaviour, it'd never be open. Meanwhile, if you needed to sit to wait for your bus, you were effectively under curfew; if you could stand, you'd have no respite from sun or rain; & you wouldn't find out until you got there.

.....& therein lies the problem. Too many politicians have tiny minds & couldn't see the potential for self harm & cannot read the current majority in the room

Farage plans to ditch workers’ rights, cut the NMW, scrap the Equality Act, legalise discrimination, take us out of the ECHR and have a deregulation bonanza to remove our protections and make it easier to exploit and endanger us… for profit. He couldn’t give a shit about working people.

Finally, it emerges, what the Brexit Benefit actually was....... No wonder he was so keen, and still he draws an EU Pension? 🤔

Antique shop find; a ca.1930s v/e sign for the long lost Midland Counties Dairies whose milk & ice cream, were certainly part of my '60 Black Country childhood. Originally founded in Wolverhampton the ice cream factory was in Birmingham; acquired by Unigate in 1963. @simonbriercliffe.bsky.social

I'm just relieved nobody is talking about how I said I bought a house in Clacton, then admitted it was in the name of my girlfriend, Laure Ferrari, even though she couldn't afford £885,000, which conveniently meant I avoided £44,000 in tax. Please don't share.
