"[T]he [State Department's absurdly inaccurate] map bears an AI watermark that signals that it was made with OpenAI. That would explain why the map's labels and borders are so wrong, and some of the strange formatting choices, but not why the State Department ... present[ed] it on a global stage."

The State Department is taking strides to remake the world order — but can’t even get basic geography right at a global conference.

The extra maddening bit about the Bluesky app on an iPad, is that after you deal with everything looking like this all the time (because I have a keyboard and mostly use it in portrait view), you click a news article, and YEP, it’s stuck in this little rectangle too, as if it were a fucking phone!!

Screenshot I just took of the BlueSky app on an iPad held in portrait view. A small vertical rectangle in the middle of the screen is the only used space. Over two thirds of the screen is just an empty black void.

Aww yeah! Fucked that shit up! Used the saw to get the sides of the lip, the utility knife to score the inner corner and then broke it off. Needed more clearance so I carefully got a line going across, scored it good and it broke right off. No filing but that tool shaved off the last needed bits!

The underside of a plastic aquarium lid along with a multi-tool with saw and filing blades out, a set of pliers, and a red utility knife.

The “cutout” for the power filter has been cut out some more. Approximately one and a half inches of plastic has been removed between the lip and the extra that had to go in order to fit a slightly larger power filter on the fish tank.

Maybe an eighth to a quarter inch needs to be shaved away? Awesome that it has a slight lip on this thing too. Just a little MORE plastic to remove. I guess it’s mine now? Or have that buzz/hum hybrid going on that made me want to unplug the other one. 🤷‍♂️🤪

Am I going to ridiculous lengths?? Ok, lemme back up. I put the other nicer power filter I bought in the tank and it’s SO MUCH quieter, but then because it could not NOT be a comedy of errors around here, the hood no longer fits because the spot left for *the set’s guy* basically fits perfectly!!

Sadly, no pleasant gurgle videos quite yet, as I’m fiercely fighting “yeah, no, that impeller is not going to make that much fucking noise in *this* apartment” There’s no “whisper” language on the box, but this isn’t anywhere near what I remember as far as acceptable! 😂 Gonna let it go for a bit.

First picture inside my new watered and lit 20 gallon fish tank.

The bottom of the tank is now a pleasant wash of green and purple gravels glistening happily.

The black sandy bio muddy muck went in first and I spread it evenly across the bottom. On top of this was a layer of purple gravel followed by a layer of green gravel (5 lbs each) which is only beginning its mixing decisions. Next to get some treated water in here.

There's ten pounds of dry sand in there that has been deluged with water and drained so now it is an unweighed amount of wet sand that will remain so as it would be a useless process About to weigh out some wacky bio sand into it that comes with microscopic stuff in it to make tank start good. 😂

A cat litter container thing with a handle on top that has had its spout removed leaving a gaping maw with a spoon tongue coming out of it. Inside is 4583 grams of dry black sand that got wet.

Well into it and past this point, already weighing different bits of “powders” in grams on a scale and shit (black sand… silica?)

So yeah… haven’t felt it in a LONG while, but I think I’m giddy with that “kid in a candy store” feeling that gets mentioned a lot, and I think it’s true Like the anticipation of this stuff got me to do some cleaning that I’ve put off for so long and now that it all is IN MY FACE I’m full of joy

Well lemme tells ya, when I got silly ideas in my head about what to do with another Kallax unit or two, I'm glad I opted to just pull the trigger while the sale I had saved a little money with was still going. Not only did they take that $7 off back, they went and raised the price by five bucks!

The window itself is north facing (well, 30 degrees east of north) so this apartment has never been incredibly sunny, which has actually helped keep it cool in the summer (doesn’t hurt that my floor is half underground) But I’ve wanted plants again. Used to have so many. Inherited green thumb.

I came within inches of starting back in that game with a 40 gallon tank because HALF OFF but came to my senses this morning and upped the ante by 9 gallons—got a 29 to start and a 20 long that is eventually going to be plant heavy in the front big window with panoramic views for the catzens

I’ve triangulated and conglomerated with myself over coming to a blueprinted plan detailing perimeters of a deal with myself about nearing the end of the quick considerations of dispersal of the game changing surprise pre-death generated war chest lobbed my way. Many boxes checked. Fish/plants soon!

Welp! The iPad has become temporary de facto Bluesky machine around here. iPhone 11 Pro Max with two lines running down the screen had a good run. Just dropped it again and some new lines and a white bar have joined the crowd! 🤷‍♂️🤣 Time to hit Injured Gadgets and figure out what to get.
