Just like this young woman, when I was 17 I also didn't realize I was pregnant until 20 weeks. Fortunately I was able to access a safe and legal abortion, an option which is no longer accessible to North Carolinians thanks to Republicans' sick power tripping. #ncpol

NC teen charged after allegedly taking abortion pills in third trimester. Police say the Durham 18-year-old took the pills to try to induce an abortion before giving birth 3 days later in a toilet and leaving the baby there. For @prospect.org today, I wrote about the big report Sen. Wyden dropped about how bankers gave Epstein a pass bc he was generating a ton of money for them. The report names a lot of names of specific bank execs and also calls out CBS, Sen. Blackburn and Scott Bessent.

Sen. Wyden Report: Banks Systematically Ignored Jeffrey Epstein’s Crimes - The American Prospect

The report shows how employees at Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, and JPMorgan helped to hide Epstein’s activities because he was a load-bearing part of their ‘wall of cash.’

Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion

I’ve seen a lot of health care workers rightfully sharing their memories from 2020, and their anger at how their struggle is minimized. I hope that they understand this feeling of being forgotten is akin to how many high risk patients feel today, when they have to beg health care workers to mask.

people have hated congress & found it corrupt for a long time but the genocide in gaza is actually really bad and the portion of the electorate that reads the news is, right now, sending a pretty unambiguous message about how they feel about democracy being subverted to ensure it continues

You can never just move on from this, even after he's gone. Without punishment and ostracism for everyone who has participated in his crime spree over the last 18 months you can forget it- we're all just treading water until the next tyrant

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"

I guess while everyone is airing their pandemic grievances I’ll add that as a nurse, the most traumatic thing about the pandemic for me was the lack of appropriate PPE and the denial of airborne spread that STILL happens in healthcare

Excellent thread from Wyden names names at the banks and in Epstein's organization whom he will subpoena if Dems retake the Senate. This should be a major Dem talking point this fall but it won't be, I suspect in large part because centrist Dems often lunch with some of the names on Wyden's list.

Top JPMorgan Chase execs coached Epstein on how to withdraw cash through shell companies instead of his personal accounts, helping him conceal information from compliance personnel and government regulators.
