The 4th round of SIGMOD 2027 has *659* submissions. This is 2-3x more than previous years! I downloaded the abstracts & compared them against last 10yrs of SIGMOD/VLDB papers. I then evaluated them to see how writing changed since ChatGPT dropped in 2022. Many papers are clearly LLM written.

LabHacker platform engineer and musician; I'm drawn to hard problems, abstractions, and music; I build code, hardware, and systems meanwhile overthinking with pen and paper until they’re simple. ps: I have more notebooks than is socially defensible.
Okay, so that means we've figured out who won the whole tabs versus spaces debate! Now let's see if we can finally settle the Emacs Vs Vim and move on.
Learn from me, 64GB in a M5 is not enough depending on what you do
I love that I have a picture saved for every single situation happening in the world right now.

Who’s trying to convince @bcantrill.bsky.social to build a mini ensemble of different databases primitives to run on their hardware? Anyone? With all the talk about sovereignty, having a reliable local DB will make a huge difference.
My kids have no idea how fortunate they are to have the mother they have.
How AI Impacts Skill Formation arxiv.org/pdf/2601.20245 In this paper, researchers validate my view that debugging and mental modeling are the true fault lines of AI use. Those who offload the "thinking" to AI suffer a "learning tax," losing in skills compared to those working manually.

Oh Native instruments, are we screwed? :/ Under German insolvency law, most software license agreements are treated as continuing use contracts that the insolvency administrator can either continue or terminate.
I started to print the robocop 2. I want to make a custom 3D face and install a little oled display on it. I spin on some “fake” modeling that kind of nails it when you apply some shaders

I convinced myself I needed a GPD Pocket 4 because I could use it as a KVM for my mini rack and the other headless machines I keep around. Little did I know it would turn out to be a Trojan horse and become one of the best mobile setup I've ever had.
@realgdt.bsky.social really did justice to the Frankenstein story. It goes beyond the usual creator vs creature angle and quietly leans into fatherhood. As a father who grew up with a pretty bad example and is trying really hard not to repeat that, it hit harder than I expected.
You’ve gotta respect the excellence Cloudflare ships. If you’ve ever dealt with real networks, multiple datacenters, real traffic, you know how brutal those problems are. They are not just keeping that complexity under control for themselves, they are packaging it and selling it to everyone else.
I read more and more that LLMs are the future of learning; this belief is shattered when you ask someone what they have learned from assisted writing, or if they can recall information. Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task arxiv.org/pdf/2506.08872
The GPU graveyard 😅 That Titan was one of the two Nvidia gifted me back in 2015. If I had taken the value and bought their stock instead, it would be worth about $600k today
Heading home from #GopherCon 2025 in NYC. As usual, many people asked how to get one of the amazing Go gopher Hawaiian shirts by Renee French. I've posted the details at github.com/rsc/gophersh.... (I know one person who has made pajama pants with the pattern. Socks might be nice too.) Enjoy!
Apparently, there’s someone at Discord whose entire job is to make sure we never get a font selection window.
