If Andy Burnham wants to replicate Keir’s landslide at the next General Election, all he has to is bring all the water companies back into public ownership and abolish Ofwat which always seems to be marching exactly in step with these companies who are robbing consumers www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Water bills set to rise for many after firms permitted extra funding

Ofwat has given provisional approval for 13 water companies to charge customers more to pay for investments.

While D9551, seen her running round her carriages after a short working to Highley, was certainly built at Swindon, I’m not so sure about its shed plate, I don’t think 84L ever featured in those Ian Allan abcs.

In the absence of steam, Swindon built diesels were prominent on Severn Valley services today with D9551 and D1062 Western Courier in action, more WR than GWR on account of the steam ban.

Brexit has held our economy back. I welcome steps to strengthen our relationship with the EU that help businesses grow and create jobs. From architects and engineers to tech firms and creatives, London thrives when talent and expertise can work across borders.

It’s not going to happen but if Count Binface did win thé Clacton by election, as Farage would be no longer an MP, the parliamentary investigation into him would probably stop. The only circumstance in which they would. Further proof the man is a moron. I’d still vote for the Count anyway.

A customs union would deliver a £14–19bn economic boost, and we’d be ceding control of at least part of our trade & tariff policy. EU membership, however, would boost our economy by at least £92bn and give us the power to shape decisions. Rejoining the EU is the best way to grow the UK economy.

Life is imitating art once again. This latest Tory farce where a neo-Nazi was selected as a candidate in Somerset was predicted by a 1970s Monty Python sketch where a Mr Hilter was standing for the local council in Minehead. Part of his manifesto was that Minehead must annexe Poland.

OK, you’ve been rumbled Gianni, can you give us all a break and just résign and go away now? You must have enough dosh in the Bank already, just feck off and give us peace..www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/czekr6kn58po

Fifa World Cup plans: Governing body scraps Gianni Infantino's private investment proposal after widespread opposition

Fifa scraps controversial plan to sell off stakes in its major competitions after widespread opposition to president Gianni Infantino's idea.

English attempts at PR are weird. In the #Manchester election, no announcement of votes in the first round, just those eliminated. In RoI elections votes for all candidates are given after each count. The single transferable vote is both simple and démocratic not like the half arsed system used here

I find it distasteful that the police are now announcing the colour and nationality of suspects in high profile murder cases. The only reason it has been introduced is to stop far right agitators stirring up disorder. We shouldn’t be letting these thugs dictate how the police respond in such cases.

On the one hand, it’s a bit crap not having a team to support in the #WorldCup but even if corrupt #FIFA increased the size of the next one to 96 teams, neither of the Irish sides would manage to qualify. On the other hand, watching it is more fun and a lot less stressful.

The SVR’s Hampton Loade station is quite close to the river and it’s not unknown for ducks to nest in its planters. Spotted this one today, panting like a dog in the intense heat. I topped up her water saucer, hope she and her eggs are OK. How long do duck eggs take to incubate anyway?

If it wasn’t for the LNER Teak coaches, this could be a scene from the last years of BR services on the Severn Valley branch of the WR. No 7714 shares a unique distinction among the ranks of preserved GWR locos in that she was not built at Swindon, but in Stoke.

Just woken up to the news that Belgium has thumped Trumpland. Best wake up I’ve had since thé #Labour landslide on the morning of 5th July 2024. Everything #Trump touches turns to shit, in his own words, he’s such a loser, though I’ve sympathy for Potch and thé players who didn’t ask for any of this
