FWIW, since May’s arrived, here’s my all-time favorite teacher joke: It’s toward the end of the school year. Student: “What can I do to improve my grade.” Teacher: “It’s May.” Student: “What MAY I do to improve my grade?” 😂😂😂

After assessing midterms, a hypothesis. It’s been my observation that my musicians in physics generally do very well - generally better than peers. This year-as ever-I noted that about 30% of my students who answered incorrectly didn’t really read problem. Not my musicians.🤔 #iteachphysics 1/2

Developing next generation of readers. Bringing these to my granddaughter today (kindergarten and beginning to read). I tell my physics students that one of the best ways to do well in physics is to read for 15 consecutive minutes - no distractions - each day; it will rewire your brain.😊 Peace!

5 books: 3 National Geographic early readers (planets, elephants, foxes), Goodnight Moon, and Green Eggs and Ham.

FWIW: when my physics vets stop by to visit after their first semester at college is pretty danged cool.😎 I’ll be smiling all weekend. (my school does a big Christmas break send off and it’s a tradition where the members of the previous year’s graduating class are invited)

I'm hoping y'all higher ed instructors appreciate the effort I'm putting into these kiddos' lab reports. All I can say is that there's a LOT of growth going on. 😬 #iteachphysics (at Chesapeake AAPT meeting a couple years ago, my peers near demanded I do these as the their first years were so bad)

Just back from our first XC invitational meet of the year. The Team did great, but I’m here to say: Any time the coaches are also teachers at the school, it’s a GOOD thing. It’s about relationships, perspective, and balance. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.🫡

Biggest SY accomplishment: declared pandemic over & got back to pacing/depth of 2018-19. Sure, some covid learning loss, but more convinced it’s student (& parent) resistance to getting back to where we were. Those easy As, completion credit, test corrections were a sweet deal.😉 #iteachphysics

@science.org: REALLY liking the new format.😎 Fellow science Ts: I’ve been an AAAS member for about 10 years, and have found Science to be a great tool to get at my scientific literacy skills (I also feel the first time my students read an actual scientific article shouldn’t be in college). Peace!

Just finished reading John Green’s “Everything is Tuberculosis.” Outstanding.👍👍👍 Too late to get it on my school’s summer reading list (our library already has it - science, science history, and social justice, good stuff!) but next year for sure. Peace!

Really not trying to cause any problems, but how can there even be “hundreds of books” about putting? You hit a little ball into a cup with a stick on level ground covered with well-maintained grass. Aren’t you overthinking it?🤔 I mean throw in some windmills or Godzilla, and I get it.

Not dancing on their grave, but I find it sort of ironic that Chegg is suing Google for ruining their business due to the effect of Google’s large language models.🙃 Students figured out pretty quick that they no longer have to pay to look up answers.
