No hardhat this year I fear. Running into too many problems with the speaker/mic, and I did not realize a hotspot doesn’t work like wifi. Maybe I’ll have a part of the project to show off but I’m doubtful.

Knowing basic math is a bit helpful. Phone numbers are 10 digits, not 9…. (don’t ask, I don’t how I got there either)

I’m still working out the issues with sending/receiving tcp messages and audio on the same connection, but the dial and speaker are working, and soon a mic too. Supposedly this’ll all be in a hard hat in two days…

I’ve verified it has power, and that the speaker output has a difference of ~1.5v from gnd. I think the issue might be the SD pin but I can’t figure it out. Any tips would be great. #esp32 #hardware #circuits
Behold, I finally found a power supply to steal for my soldering iron. Made the DC33 Mini Badge and soldered the headers onto an amp. For being the first time I’ve soldered headers, I’m impressed only two of then look murdered. #defcon #soldering
After 5 centuries of pain and suffering… I finally got TLS working on my Pi and esp32, and can send very basic messages. Now I have 5 open days left before Defcon to finish everything else…
At this rate I might have more of a walking phone hacking challenge than a working phone system. Asterisk has so many settings… (and I haven’t even read the “read me immediately” security txt yet)

I’m very glad there’s so many resources for Asterisk online. Despite that, this attempt at installing it is still driving me insane.
Finally talked to my mom about my consult in two weeks. I would prefer speaking to a large crowd completely unprepared rather than talking to her about this…
Took me six days whole to figure out two of the four wires on a rotary dial are ground. It wasn‘t that the gpio interrupts were!’t working, I was just stupid. At least I get numbers off a rotary dial now.
First time wearing shorts all year. Cargo pants >>> shorts. Summer is definitely my least favorite season.
On one hand, I‘m getting my phone/dial working. On the other, I’m figuring out the calling/actual phone stuff. The nonexistent middle part is figuring out how to connect the two. (It seems very tricky)
I’m hoping to start designing my stickers soon (and maybe even order them a full month before Defcon). If anyone has fun ideas, I’m open to a few more designs. So far I’ve got a hard hat rubber duck concept, and probably some sort of phone one.
Might’ve bricked a wifi pineapple Tetra. (Didn’t realize the update file was not the recovery file…) The recovery steps aren’t working and the orange light is constantly on with the page showing “update in progress”. If anyone knows how to fix it that’d be great.
No luck with the microphone yet, but the speaker is working. I was surprised at how decent the sound was. I’m not sure if I need to make a real circuit for the microphone or just play with wires a bit more.
*night. 4.5 hours of doing nothing so far. She fell asleep now, though we’re waiting for her to be sedated, then we wait till she’s actually out then head home until the vet calls us.
