Ugh. The full Eleventh Circuit upheld Florida's ban on children attending drag shows, which can be so broadly interpreted that it covers way more than drag shows. 8-5 decision which means it split right down the middle on Dem vs. GOP appointees.

In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

In 1986, just getting prescribed hormones as a transgender person was a years long ordeal. Even in the most liberal mainstream workplaces, being gay and/or trans had to be a secret.

In 1986, contracting HIV meant you were going to die, usually slowly, painfully, and alone. Now it's a chronic illness like hypertension. In 1986, gay and lesbian couples couldn't have their relationships legally recognized and had to adopt elaborate legal workarounds.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?

Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?

Twitter post: Grand Rapids Businessman @GR_businessman NEWS: Local business owner claims Haley Stevens and the Kent Dems were misleading about an event hosted at their facility, which is nextdoor to the Kent Dems. Pux Taphouse says they believed this was a “Women’s Dem” event, but realized later it was for Haley Stevens U.S. Senate campaign. Pux Taphouse used the event to clarify online that it does NOT endorse Stevens because she is Anti-LGBTQAIP2s+ and supports Israel. Attached screenshot: When Pux was approached to book this event, we were only it would be a private women's Dem event. Pux was never advised that Haley Stevens would be connected with this event. We are heartbroken as we pride ourselves on being not only a queer friendly space but also have advocated and continue to call for a free Palestine. We DO NOT endorse Haley Stevens. Our promise to our community is that in the future we will be more vigilant in requesting specific details for private events in the future. We apologize most sincerely and will be donating the proceeds tonight to the Grand Rapids Pride Center.

Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
