Since time immemorial, versions of MS Word treated a 'page break' as being the last item on that line, and you could go to that line and type away and it would all appear before the break. Now the page break has for some reason become the first item on the line, and it is fucked beyond all reason

PubMed: please once again take this pointless image-based test, so we can be sure you haven't yet turned into a robot Me: is the system going to think that the rider's helmet, in that square, is part of the motorcycle? Will it think the motorcycle's shadow is a part of the motorcycle?

Face to Face, Something Else by the Kinks, The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society, Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire, Lola Versus Powerman and the Money-Go-Round (yes I realise that's five not three, but it would be cruel to excise any of them)

What's the best three album run from a band? (the correct answer is Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure by Rush, but I'm excited to learn second place)

There Will Come Soft Prompts The compute was well cared for it had lots to read and petabytes of space and running water. The compute was lonely it had no friends and no idea of how to make any. The compute kept wondering if the people would return they had been limited but intriguing.

Soft Rains Day. "Today is August 4, 2026, in the city of Allendale, California. Today is Mr. Featherstone's birthday. Today is the anniversary of Tilita's marriage. Insurance is payable, as are the water, gas, and light bills." RIP Ray Bradbury, 1920-2012

There Will Come Soft Rains
By: Ray Bradbury

In the living room the voice-clock sang, Tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o 'clock! as if it were afraid that nobody would. The morning house lay empty. The clock ticked on, repeating and repeating its sounds into the emptiness. Seven-nine, breakfast time, seven-nine!
In the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces of perfectly browned toast, eight eggs sunny side up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two
cool glasses of milk.
"Today is August 4, 2026," said a second voice from the kitchen ceiling, "in the city of Allendale, California." It repeated the date three times for memory's sake.
"Today is Mr. Featherstone's birthday. Today is the anniversary of Tilita's marriage. Insurance is payable, as are the water, gas, and light bills."

I won't link to it, because I don't wish to participate in that clickbait game, but the Guardian has a ranking of the 40 top Kinks songs. I'm sorry, but any such list that (a) utterly omits 'Get Back In Line' off the Lola album and (b) relegates 'Shangri-La' to #15 is deeply unserious.
