If the government moved from twitter to bluesky they would just do anxious lameposting like everyone else, pleading to imagined gods. If I had a monopoly on legal violence and rich enemies, oligarchs would be getting defenestrated!

And it unlocked something for me that feels really obvious about how people think about racism wrong
I'm thinking more to the next hundred years. The single market, unlike e.g. China, can keep expanding without hostility. If we get a single overarching human rights framework for a borderless planet, we can maybe keep developing technology indefinitely.
We created the UK, and British identity, for the Empire. The Empire mindset, incompatible with modern Europe, will likely last as long as the UK does.

The focus here is wrong - horse racing is in terminal decline regardless - but the idea is correct. This isn't controversial among people who understand the subject for free. Affordability checks have large downside. The upside is illusory, comparable to Bruce Schneier's "security theatre".

Many will refuse to supply personal financial information for these intrusive checks - they’ll instead turn to the unregulated illegal market. How many people agree with Hannah Fry that "this [flocking behaviour] is basically the deal with being a good person"? I know that Jesus, Buddha and most autistics would find that view absolutely staggering. Yet I guess that maybe 90% of people would agree with her.

The lengths nonautistics go to avoid looking in the mirror. At some point you would think a meta intelligence would kick in and ask "Why is this research so fruitless? What is wrong with our lens?"

Rise of Reform mainly highlights the lack of a social democratic English nationalist movement. Fascism will be pushed into second place everywhere but England - the nation of post-imperial confusion. More English are noticing this tbf, but they'll still be British-first by 29.

My hunch is that the same way LLMs are suited to types of grownups, they'll be suited to types of children, who'll do extraordinarily well with them. But they'll be maybe quite a small minority.
There are definitely more interesting discussions on twitter. Red/blue button and Newcomb's Paradox - those are revealing! Here you would be mired in people taking offence.
AI doesn't "cause people to become delusional" any more than alcohol causes people to become alcoholics. In both cases we've simply identified people who need therapy.

I think the tonal thing I miss in Star Trek is the arrogance of its optimism. It wasn’t ostensively trying to convince you of its progressive values, it was flat out telling you that one day you and your petty bigotries would be dead and gone and laughed at. I’d like some of that energy in the 2030s

Running towards conspiracy thinking is naive and you should be embarrassed. Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? No.
