The eighth and final chapter of The Last Portrait is in subscribers’ inboxes, along with a special invite for those who’ve joined us on our journey so far. Thanks a lot, I hope the ending satisfies. Seeing folks go with it and experience the announce as a plot twist was supremely rewarding.

Oh god it’s literally in Generations isn’t it
I'm sure the Sycophancy Nexus was in an episode of TNG.
The specific focus in this video on the way these tools get under your skin and train you to depend on them is an aspect I personally find existentially terrifying. youtu.be/TtvICev9sBE?...

Doing a little evening work and half watching Royal Tennenbaums.. and, uh, realising I might be making a slightly Wes Anderson coded game. Fancy typography and right angles ftw

It’ll be interesting to learn, on the other side of the AI crash, which AAA studios had actually built dependencies on generative AI into their processes, and which were bullshitting.
One for @thatswhatugets.bsky.social … who has been having this achievement named after him for 20 years at this point.

Making my own little custom Godot tools and plugins with reckless abandon. I am very much in love.
This week Meta and Microsoft announced their quarterly earnings, Meta (left) overspent on AI and Microsoft hit their projections, and the money being invested in each essentially switched. The bubble will keep inflating a little while yet.
Love Actually is one of the most overrated movies of my lifetime and actively terrible in places but emma thompson saying "nobody's ever going to shag you if you go around feeling sorry for yourself all the time" might be the most important PSA in any film this century
There is no center ground when one side wants the other to disappear. Humans exist in a binary state, we exist or we don’t.

I realised today that Vampirium’s in-game quick saves are hitting 500kb and it caused a mini freakout / investigation into godot’s compression capabilities (gzip out the box, lovely). Dealing with data outcomes of ‘you can do a hundred things and save anywhere’ is a surprising, and fun, challenge
The YouTube studio app was using 100gb of storage on my iPhone. How do you free up all that unused storage? Only one way. Delete the app and reinstall it. This from the biggest media app in the world… feels like we have just given up any concept of quality control.
The fact that ai art and writing programs are built on stolen work really seems to be fading from the discussion even amongst artists and writers, which is a bit shit.
looking at the headlines and reflecting once again on how all the smart, hard-working, honest people I know feel like they’re going at least a little insane in our era of total Stupid Immoral Asshole ascendancy
I want a production company to work out how to do a WWE: Unreal / F1: Drive to Survive type show for the development of a west end show.. I’d settle for a fly on the wall of Cirque du Soleil.
One problem with doing a bunch of interviews / podcasts is that once the person sat across from me gets what I’m making with Vampirium, they start pitching verbs and mechanics. And a bigger problem is that those ideas are often very cool and need to go in. Real preview of what alpha will be like.

companies are sourcing millions of printed books for AI labs that scan them for training data, then destroy them. printed books are more valuable because they're free of AI slop, and AI labs know destroying them is an "optics problem." www.404media.co/ai-companies...
