Attention all academic burnouts who kept saying yes to things because they weren't until fall semester. It is now fall sester.

A Real Request: We need your 7th grader to locate and to bring in to school a rock that is approximately the size of a large adult male fist. If it is a little larger than a fist that will be fine, however, if it is too small then their project will not be as successful.
Just to be clear this is a joke on the shitposting website Bluesky rather than serious economic analysis attempting to blame gungan rōnin and Sith lord Jar Jar Binks for the economic malaise of late capitalism
This event is going to be fun if you like robots, computers, or learning about how to do research differently! Also, the event is the day before my birthday, so you should come and wish me a happy birthday because I'm a Leo. Also, if you can't come live, registrants get a recording!
In this seminar, six scholars will discuss their research in Human-Robot Interaction and related research areas and describe how the Counterventions series supported their transformation and growth as researchers. purdue-edu.zoom.us/meeting/regi...

It’s really something how people get up in arms about accessibility and equity when the thing in question is pervert glasses or Dark Clippy. I don’t see you folks showing up when Ticketmaster says there’s no way a wheelchair user can come to concerts or that sign language is “too distracting”.
Did you know the solution to ableism is turning every disabled person into a surveillance device? This is sarcasm.
Yes, the Problems are bad, but this is no time for radical things like Solutions
BTW the definition of robotics researcher is very broad. "Robotics adjacent" or "robotics aspiring" or "robotics curious" may also apply. "I'm a little botcurious"

Broke: pervert glasses designed to spy on everyone pretending they're for disabled people. Woke: tongue-controlled trackpad that let's disabled people feel a little bit naughty while browsing the internet.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think I might have found the winner of this year's Anti-Dongle awards. Something I made up just now for new tech that centers disabled people and isn't some kind of exploitative half-baked joke. www.augmental.tech

A trackpad worn on the roof of the mouth: hands-free control of your devices, driven by the tongue. From Augmental.

An endorsement from Dr. Raj Korpan: "I had so much fun and also learned so much that I could directly apply in my research and teaching. We reflected deeply about how HRI research is done ... and the policy implications of our work." Even professors like it!

Mace can help prevent assault so it is good to have tear gas to suppress protesters. This is a post about AI and the Disability Diversion.
I'm really excited about who I'm seeing in my registration for this series so far. I love working with our young researchers (I love corrupting the youth). But I am really hoping more senior people will allow me to play with them too! Don't be shy! Please play with me I swear I'm fun.

Interested in Critical HCI? @rone.bsky.social and I are launching Critical HCI Collabs discord. This server is designed to support collaborations between HCI researchers who are interested in critical approaches and methods, but who struggle to find the collaborators they need in their local areas.

I've been professionally complaining about autism research for 10 years. I've done detailed scholarly analysis. I've done qualitative research with autistic children (the only part of my dissertation that is still unpublished). I've done several summer camp events with mixed neurotype groups.
I must have missed it how do I block all bout accounts (those flagged as such anyway)

This is the weirdest request for input that I've seen in a while. It's almost like the ACM is sitting at the table with the "change my mind" sign. So, let's do it. Short thread with the input I gave them:
If you would like to share your thoughts, please use this link (buff.ly/fnANR1x). ACM leadership will take your feedback into account while we develop and implement our AI content strategy over the coming months.
What's a "Midwest twist" on "incentive Mexican eats"? Is there ranch? Is there a taco casserole?

That's not incidental. Under-resourced districts are easier sells for "innovative" tech and harder places to say no when a company frames it as closing an opportunity gap. Rural and Indigenous communities keep getting cast as the beta testers for whatever Silicon Valley wants to normalize next. 4/
currently reading @fractalecho.bsky.social’s Disabling Intelligences with a student, which is a good text to give you a framework to understand how and why this is bad :)
