"We're too much ourselves. Afraid of letting go of what we are, in case we are nothing, and holding on so tight, we lose everything else." This is Clive Barker in Imajica. He had seen our age coming.

Oh, if we could all be cats napping on autumn leaves!
A tiny tiny gecko. One of my favourite animals, really.
Rome is a character, in Pan. Cities are people, and some people are weirder than others I’ve never met a bigger weirdo than Rome.
The Society of Authors has withdrawn from the ill-conceived concession to the dark side that was the "ethical GenAI" charter because of the mass and vocal outrage of authors. Publishers need to be made afraid of this level of anger too.
As someone who is on the internet, I don’t care much for any kind of text on the internet starting with ‘as a writer/engineer/witch/horticulturalist/juggler…’
The world has always been ending. Sometimes more than others. And new worlds have always been getting born.
If you're curious about Pan but a bit tight and you didn't get it yet (no, I get it, seriusly), here's a review by the good folks of @grimdarkmagazine.bsky.social to help you make your mind: www.grimdarkmagazine.com/review-pan-b...
REVIEW: Pan by Francesco Dimitri
Pan is now published in English for the first time after being translated by Sophia Mcdougall, and grimdark fans will find a lot to love.

Optimism is a radical stance. Everybody says that everything is fucked. Well, no.
My hill is: the real Rome is a thousand times messier and better than the one tourists see. Being young in Rome was one of the great privileges of my life.

'Pan (...) moved between rough beasts, glades, and rocks: he was a god of flesh and bones, of the here-and-now. He had horns, cloven hooves, and no modesty at all.' Read the whole essay for free. Io Pan! francescodimitri.substack.com/p/what-makes...

Pan is not very whimsical. It is a ‘what would it be like if ancient graeco-roman mythology returned to an ultra-realistic modern Rome?’ kind of book. So, not much whimsy there. Plenty of Lost Children though. And they do fly.
Pan is out in English today. It was published for the first time in Italy in 2006, before the social media deluge, and it became a word-of-mouth success. This is a magnificent translation by @sophiamcdougall.bsky.social. Tell them he's coming back. www.amazon.com/Pan-Francesc...

Folks, do read @bleakhousing.bsky.social ‘s The Ship of Death. It’s a blast. I’m not sure I’ll ever play Arkham Horror ever again, though
Kyle Winkler's The Ship of Death is the horror book gamers never asked for, but always needed. It's great and you guys should read it.
I should probably post about Pan, but with Autumn in full swing, I'd rather point out how much I miss watermelon.
I love fireworks, jewels, and sweets, for the same reason: they are all entirely useless. Being nice is their only point. Creating useless-but-nice stuff is a great thing we humans do.
The American war guy is a grotesque example of what happens when you don’t outgrow your GI Joe era at ten years old.
A spoiler- free look at the first half of Pan. Written by yours truly, translated by @sophiamcdougall.bsky.social , edited by @leeharris.net . Out next week for @torbooks.bsky.social!
