Color trends used to come and go—but the color recession that began this century threatens to turn our world permanently gray, Amogh Dimri reports:
The Color Recession May Be Permanent
Consumers are so afraid of getting colors wrong, they don’t use them at all.

COS is announcing important changes to the Open Science Framework (OSF). OSF Projects—used for project collaboration, file mgmt, & storage—is being phased out as an active workspace over the next 6 months. This change does not affect persistence & accessibility of existing public projects. (🧵1/2)
I can’t say enough good things about this book, which my entire lab read together several years ago. It was hugely helpful to me even after tenure, and I consider myself to be a strong writer who usually loves writing!

I sound like a broken record, but if you can only do one sanity check before sharing your data, let it be this. Check your rows. 1. Do you have the correct number of cases? 2. Are any cases duplicated or missing? 3. Are the unique identifiers valid? Thank you for your time. 🙏

When sharing data, does anyone package their dataset with an actual validation script? Something that a computer can run to confirm that column level attributes are met? So beyond a data dictionary, something like a JSON Schema or maybe a YAML file with validation code?
woof ≈80% of assignments this summer term have essentially been just raw chatgpt/claude output, including assignments that required designing stuff in illustrator/affinity/canva. The battle is lost for asynchronous online courses.

A new Science study shows that bumble bees can position a ball underneath a fake “flower” to reach a reward, suggesting they can exhibit spontaneous problem-solving and challenging the notion that such advanced cognitive abilities are exclusive to large-brained vertebrates. https://scim.ag/4vs08dC
A good, short read. “In a nutshell, this is the issue: PDFs are not written to be accessible content for all audiences. Instead, they are designed for creating print-ready documents for fully sighted readers.” The recommendation: HTML is way better than PDF for accessibility. #🧮 🧪

Introducing the undulating tripod gait, the walking strategy used by many fishes. We tracked the fishes, built a model, a robot, and found that 3 body segments, 2 fins, and friction are all it takes. No specialized anatomy required. Out today in Nature Communications www.nature.com/articles/s41...
