We're excited to share the PyCon AU 2026 conference roadmap! Yes, you could say this is just an announcement of upcoming announcements. In reality, we're just so excited about #pyconau that we wanted to share what we're cooking up for the year ahead. 📆 2026.pycon.org.au/posts/2026-c...

10 years ago I took a flight to Sydney to attend my first COMBINE. The support of @shazanfar.bsky.social @hdashnow.bsky.social and @lonsbio.bsky.social meant the world and I made so many friends that year I still get to hang out with. Thanks to everyone for a successful conference! #ABACBS2025
Our prez @jessmar.bsky.social gave a shout-out to our Slack shameless-plugs channel. We’re all about boosting our members, which is why we’re leaning into Bluesky. Papers shared here get indexed by Altmetric, so growing this community turns into real, measurable impact for our members #ABACBS2025
Thanks so much to the 113 people who have answered the survey! If you haven’t already you can find it at lnkd.in/gJGfxftq or come see me at our poster! @abacbs.bsky.social #ABACBS2025
Such a cool and interesting talk by Dr Sally Lau @lausally.bsky.social on Octopus DNA and the collapse of Ice sheets in Antarctic! #Confbingo update - presentation on dangerous animals ✅✅ #ABACBS2025
Our cornetto work is now published at www.nature.com/articles/s41... It can do near-T2T assembly using @nanoporetech.com adaptive sampling - with less 💸 - reference agnostic, so works for non-humans - not just blood, even saliva Just presented at #abacbs2025 yesterday.
Targeted sequencing and iterative assembly of near-complete genomes - Nature Communications
Long-read sequencing enables high-quality genome assemblies, but challenges remain. Here, the authors introduce Cornetto, a method that improves assembly quality, enables genome sequencing from saliva...

Great talk from Michael Payne at #ABACBS2025 on DAMPA - tool for designing probe panels for targeted metagenomics using pangenome graphs! Captures all diversity efficiently, uses fewer probes than competitors. Critical for syndromic surveillance! 🧬🔬 #Metagenomics
Great talk from Dr. Sandeep Kaur @compbiosan.bsky.social on MGTdb at #ABACBS2025! Multi-resolution typing (9 levels) + AMR prediction = powerful tool for tracking bacterial outbreaks globally. Case study: 2022 Kinder chocolate egg Salmonella outbreak traced using MGT. 🦠🧬
#confbingo was always a great part of ABACBS #abacbs2025, and in honour of the celebrations of the society this year, it's back! Terms have been updated from the last iteration in 2018, but if there are any great suggestions let me know. Get your card and play along confbingo.shinyapps.io/bingo25/

Thrilled to hear Dr. Joanna McEntyre @ebi.embl.org Interim Director speak at #ABACBS2025 about EMBL-EBI's data resources, AI strategy, and the future of open science.
Global equity of data is only possible when countries can have ownership and generate their own data. Data equity and access to infrastructure is so important. A great presentation by @ebi.embl.org Interim Director Dr. Joanna McEntyre @abacbs.bsky.social #ABACBS2025
Social drinks for #ABACBS2025 with @jamieleet.bsky.social and Emma and @ingridtarr.bsky.social the @egiannoulatou.bsky.social lab!
Hey #abacbs #abacbs2025 if you're having trouble getting on to the "Adelaide Oval Free WIFI", check your wifi's DNS server settings. Clear it and go back to defaults, so you can get through the auth.
At #abacbs2025 and new to BlueSky? This starter pack will help! go.bsky.app/NmhwfbN
Adelaide buses are a lot quieter than Sydney ones. There’s no “ding, ding, ding” as everyone taps off. People aren’t shouting “open the back door!!!” And most surprising, everyone just raises their hand and salutes the bus driver instead of yelling “thank you!!” from halfway down the bus?
I put together a Bluesky Starter Pack for PyCon AU 2024! This is for people speaking, attending, volunteering at, and organising the event in Melbourne this weekend. Are you at #PyConAU and on BlueSky? Message me and I’ll add you! go.bsky.app/JFytL7a
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
